I'm new to the forum and have a question about service options. I have a 10 year old steel Daytona and my wife has an 8 year old steel 31mm Datejust (with diamonds on the bezel and at the 6 o'clock position). They both need servicing. The obvious choice is Rolex service in LA. But is there a good and trustworthy option for a third party to service the watches? How about the time frame, Rolex is saying 3-4 weeks for completion. My AD is suggesting $1,200-1,400 for the Daytona and $700-800 for the Datejust for Rolex to provide the service. To me it seems the best option is the manufacturer's service center, but there are others quoting much lower prices.
I've had a couple other mechanical watches that I had serviced in Salt Lake City for $4-500.
Any help for a Rolex service newby?

Send it to Dallas Rolex yourself, ask for Vivian when you call and she’ll tell you how to send it in.

Google Rolex Dallas for number

I prefer to use Rolex Dallas and won’t send my watches anywhere else, don’t go through AD

Contact Kelly Hayes, Certified Rolex Technician and A.W.I Master Watchmaker. Only does factory authorized Rolex service and has a Rolex parts account. Best in country, has done over 30,000 Rolex services. He is in Mission Viejo, CA and his number is 949-454-1550. His Dad used to own a Rolex dealer. Fast turnaround time and reasonable rates. You won't be disappointed. Tell him the "Judge" sent you!

I highly recommend Mr. Hayes. He serviced my 10 year old datejust recently, and I cannot say enough good things about him. If you get the chance to speak with him and see his store, it is a treat for the Rolex fan.

No no no...you have provided no proof that they require service! Are they not keeping accurate time or are they making noise? Please do not fall for the fake rhetoric of forums. If they are keeping time then what proof do you have that they require service?

A few things here:

How do you know the watches need service? I ran my Sub and GMT for 15 years both before ever sending them in for service. The tell-tale for me was that they became very hard to wind. I could tell that something was wrong.

Always send them to a Rolex Service Center - do NOT have the AD perform the work. Most suck. Yes...you will have to wait. Mine took about 2 months.

Quite true.
If it isn't acting up then why would you get it serviced?

AmbSteve and SearChart are absolutely correct. If the watches are keeping good time and not making any noises then why have them serviced now. Save your money now and have a Merry Christmas

I guess it depends on how actively you wear your watch (e.g swimming, diving, etc). Or in this case you would only let the watch pressure tested?

It never hurts to do a pressure test, better safe than sorry.
