Rolex on the cover of the local newspaper..
Anyone in San Diego, (and probably available on line as well), can take a look at today's (February 1st) Union Tribune, our local Newspaper. On the cover, of the main section, is a picture of a Yacht-Master, sitting next to a Timex. The article is entitled "Luxuary Items face downturn." It didn't mention Rolex specifically, but talked about how people are now buying from Wall Mart instead of Gucci, and that the luxuary items we Americans cherished so much (inferring a Rolex) are on their way out of favor and face "uncertain" futures.
Guess pretty soon this Forum will be entitled: "TTF" (The Timex Forum) and we'll all remember the good old days before Rolex went out of business... |

I doubt this will turn into "TTF" but I would have to agree that luxury products are hitting a "downturn" but eventually it will pick up again. The possible ideas are these luxury brands will lower prices or produce less products. If not than they will go out of business.
The days of lavish spending is on it's way out and conservative spending is the new outlook in today's society. Some high-end clothing company's are on their way out due to competition and cheaper alternatives. Corporations get frowned upon for purchasing a company plane and executives are being ridiculed for spending a million bucks to furnish their office, a common practice 5 to 10 years ago but not today. With media tension, it would lead to bad business amongst the consumers and their views of them. |

If it came down to all I could afford was a Timex I would probably quit wearing a wrist watch and just go with if it's sunny it's daytime, if it's dark it's night time.

I would disagree with the dissertation that luxury items are on a downturn. Every visit to my AD and jewelery stores recently seem to involve heaps of customers buying Patek's and Faberge. I felt poor picking up my SD a few days ago.
If you ask me, business has been picking up... |
