Who needs a financial advisor when you have TRF! On second thought I’m going to call Vanguard for some watch advice.

It does when the current values are unnaturally high because of an unusually high amount of fabricated wealth. Bitcoin billionaires, that sort of thing.

Buy used? Nobody can predict the price of watch reliably. I love my 5205, and didn't buy it with an anticipation that price will increase or even hold.

Can't comment on any softening of 5205 prices, but I have to say it seems like a great time to go after some more complicated pieces.

I'm a sports watch guy at heart and understand that the sports references are all the rage at the moment, but that simply isn't where Patek's essence and mastery lies, imo.

If buying a dressier piece at a deep discount, even if this insane "sports references at 2.5x MSRP" market crashes, I can't see the complicated pieces following in the same proportion, simply because they aren't nearly leveraged in the same way or used as a commodity.

Regardless, the safest way to play it remains buying what you love, because then nothing of that even matters.

I’m seriously thinking about getting one. Either this dial or the white. I tried on the WG blue dial and I think I like RG more.

The early 5205's with the two-tone dials seem to be fairly soft in resale, but the more recent ones with all black or white dials appear to hold up a little better. That said, all I can say is I didn't get mine because of potential resale - I buy stocks for that purpose.

Instead, I got my 5205R because I really like it. The RG and white dial make it supremely elegant and classic, but also a touch sporty and forward-looking. It wears smaller than it is, exudes substance and gravitas without being overbearing. It often gets noticed, but in the way I prefer my watches to be noticed, which is people generally don't know what it is, but they remark "wow, that looks really great, what is it?"

Regardless, leave aside what others think for a moment. My advice is get whatever moves and impresses you. Get something that makes you think to yourself "damn just look at that thing" whenever you glance at your wrist. A watch is first and foremost a personal statement, an extension of your personality. Of course, be mindful of resale, after all, these things are expensive, just don't let resale dictate your selection entirely. For me, resale is a factor, but not the determining factor.

Anyway, here's mine. I've had it for a little over a year now, and I'm thoroughly enjoying it:

Just a thought....Enjoy your Saturday
absolutely correct. unless a couple of million chinese decide that dress watches is what they need there won't be a bottom to where they go. and the former is highly unlikely, seeing how people dress in china:::)))

Out of curiosity. Are ADs discounting these? I had a chance to buy the blue dial one and I got the impression there would be no discount.

Not really. You can try for 5% if it sits there for a long time but generally tough to see that. Best thing to do is just package something. Ask for a rolex daytona or pepsi lol

This only demonstrates the overall watch market is very soft. There are very small areas of crazy demand for SS sports from Patek, Rolex and AP but the rest of the market really stinks right now.

Look at the 5320G. They are trading in the mid sixties used. I expect they will be in the mid fifties shortly. There really is not much demand for dressy PM complicated dress watches at the moment.

Brighter areas in Patek appear to be the 3940 series which is showing strength and all the discontinued 324 housed Calatravas, especially the G, which seem to be on the rise.

I hope the RG version or the blue dial become more affordable. I think overall, these ACs are wonderful compared to the dial type. Will be interesting.

Dlindsay (Karl) had attacked posters like Tyler, Tom for no reason and good on you for getting him banned.
