I was talking about the used market. You don’t have to buy those at Tiffany.

Everyone here talks supply/demand. That only matters in a liquid market. Otherwise it's hype based. Same applies in the art world. It's not about supply/demand, it's about hype.

Anyone who thinks that the current 5711 prices -- especially for Tiffany-stamped models -- is due to anything other than hype is sadly mistaken. 2 years ago, you could get a 5711 white for ~$20k. When I bought mine in December, they were around $40k and stayed there for a few months after. Now they're up above $60k. 200% appreciation in 2 years is ridiculous, as is the tripling of the premium to retail over about 6 months. Believe me, I'd love for these to keep rising -- hell, I'd take holding where they are now in an instant -- but this is ridiculous and won't last. This doesn't mean values have topped out -- they might not have -- but they aren't going to last.

Going back to the topic of the thread, it does seem that for many models, the Tiffany stamp is commanding a premium currently. However, the market is insanely frothy right now and any sort of differentiating factors, such as the Tiffany stamp, are valued highly. This will not last and is all fueled by hype, and when there's a crash, these premiums will evaporate. Of course, the stamp will still be valuable for certain models -- Nautilus, Aquanaut, and maybe a few limited-production grand complications -- but otherwise, it'll likely be worthless on contemporary models as it has been at any point outside of the last year or so.

but as people are crazy about the t stamp, and it carries a premium on sports models, does it carry the same inflated figure on a normal 5166 or AC 5205 /5396

u get my drift
I don't know who this "watch_fan" is and I don't know who this Edward is.

I think "watch_fan" has given the perfect answer to your question even though it is not the right circumstance to make such a comment. Have a look at post 38
