New to the forums

Hi all,

I've been a lurker for the past few months and have gained a wealth of information about Rolex watches that I had not previously known. Quite glad I stumbled upon the forums in my research of a recent acquisition.

I have recently acquired a Rolex DJ REF 6694 and have been looking to replace the leather strap with a bracelet, but not something pretentious. I like the Oyster and Jubilee bracelets but am not sure which would fit best. Any advice is appreciated.

I can't speak to the Jubilees, but pretty sure that any of the below Oyster bracelets fit the 6694 correctly:

7205 with 57 end pieces (riveted version)
7835 with 257/357 end pieces (folded link version) - I think 361 end pieces may also work with this one.
78350 with 557 end pieces (solid link version)

You might already be aware that the riveted and folded link bracelets (including the folded Jubilees) are more difficult to adjust than what many people are used to - the links have to be unfolded and this takes a watchmaker who really knows what they are doing.

If a new or used genuine bracelet is out of reach, there are a good number of aftermarket options (note I said aftermarket, not counterfeit) of varying quality available.

Whichever route you go, if you get a bracelet with screw-adjustable links, make sure to apply loctite to the screw threads once you have it sized. I learned that lesson the hard way - and was fortunate my watch went flying onto the bed in my hotel room and not onto a sidewalk.

Wow! That is great advice and I'm certainly glad everything worked out.

Not to keep bumping my thread, but the 6694 that I acquired does not have a cyclops over the date. The research I've done states that it is still an authentic timepiece, placing the manufacture year in 1950 (pre-cyclops). Should I be concerned?

Why would you be concerned?

No cyclops would be appropriate for the era.

Good point. I'm just worried as it will be a gift for my eldest son when he graduates from high school (he's 13). He has shown an interest in timepieces and I wanted to start him out with something simple, so I got him into Seiko, Bulova, Citizen, and Movado. This will be the first luxury timepiece that he has owned.

Your watch is an Oyster Date, not a Date Just. The 6694 was the last in a long line of hand wound 30/31/34mm date watches. It contains the indestructible 1200 series manual wind movement, probably a 1225 in your watch.

The 6694 was introduced in the mid to late 60s and the latest one I saw had 1989 papers but had probably been in stock a for a while. It most likely came with a cyclops and got swapped out over the years.

Pics would be nice but post he first 4 of the serial number and we can get close on the age.

My apologies for not having the pic up. Should have done that.

Serial #: 7002

Let me know if you need a bigger pic. I'm working on trying to resize it.

The cyclope version is #108 and the tropic is #12. Both are correct for your watch.
