The Welsh, Scottish, and Irish members of TRF will be in two minds about this one. Tough call.
I'll take "get the call for a grail", it would be a win / win situation.

Exactly, and now England is facing the dive kings of the game - Italy.

I like AF but couldn't ever watch a game live, I have to record and fast forward thru it, after all it's famously a four hour advertisment broken up by 1 hour of sports action.

Getting the call is a win of course but England winning would be loss for us the size of which I can't even put into words. If England win I'll be devastated and I don't even watch football.
Even for Northern Ireland?

This England "team" is one of the best we've had in recent decades. Southgate has them playing in a system they all seem happy with. The best two teams are in the final and if England can play their best they will win.

Played in its simplest form it truly is "A beautiful game".

It is and we have the deepest squad in the world, if we had gone another way and really played to our attacking strengths, remember our defence was the worry going into the tournament and so Southgate has been so defensive, I think looking back we could have probably beaten every team comfortably by 2 or 3 goals in every game, as the back 4/5 have held out really well too plus Sterling, who was the weak link for me, has been brilliant, and we would be very hot favorites to take down Italy too, instead Italy are slight favourites.

A 0 - 0 score would go to extra time and if still no winner, penalties. I'm not a huge soccer fan but watching England has been amazing.

Win....I can't afford my grail :)

If by 'faked breaking a nail' you mean "someone had blood squirting out of their ankle, through their socks and onto the field" just to score penalties in overtime with that exact same foot while directly trash talking their opponent who's about 30-40% bigger than them, then yes, they "faked breaking a nail."

+1

As someone who has lived in the UK for a few years and returned back to Canada recently I cringe every time I hear "soccer".

You must not watch many games then.

There are certainly valid criticisms of American football compared to soccer, such as long games, lack of consistent action, too many rules, etc, I agree with those. But the "too many pads, the players are weak" argument coming from the crowd of a sport that is known for dives and theatrics is pretty silly and I'm surprised anyone would try to make that point.

Haha, definitely have to agree to disagree. I remember watching this very episode! Personally, I think this says more about Americans than it does about football.... Have a great weekend Mike

Perhaps it does. I will give soccer credit for having two hour games. American football does drag on and on at times. I actually find myself purposely recording games and starting one hour after kickoff. By skipping commercials and halftime only, I can watch the entire game in two hours and be caught up to live tv by the end. DVRs have changed my life. Rarely watch anything live anymore.

Anyway that's another topic. You have a great weekend too Ollie. I love the UK and all its quirks. Can't wait to get back there again some day. Been too long.
