I suppose if you are going to buy one Rolex and only one and you like the Sub but also want the GMT function, the 126710GRNR checks both boxes. Many refer to the 116710LN as the "Fake Sub" for this reason.

For those who want more than one Rolex and can afford it, you buy a BLNR, BLRO or VTNR AND you buy a Sub.

Both of which are in production

If they had discontinued the BLNR or BLRO for the GRNR I could understand the complaints. But that's not whats happened

I’ve tried every GMT and keep coming back to the 116718 although I do wish I’d kept my 116710LN. Bicolor bezels don’t seem to stick with me.

Absolutely, Neil.

The GRNR should not have been a surprise

Perhaps it was aimed at the UK market - Scotland particularly. We have way more grey days than blue ones with our cr@p weather

The green hand is an odd choice with this combo for me, and the grey/black combo has always struck me as weird as well…why a need for two colors that are so similar? Why not go all black at that point? If you want two colors, make them more different from one another. To me, a full black with a red hand would have made a lot more sense.

One reason for the disappointment is because most were excited that they might release a coke. Had they released both a coke version and a GRNR at the same time the popularity between the two would have been 2-1 if not more in favor of the coke.

Not true at all. I have said before the sub is the most boring watch on earth you buy it if you want to buy something that when you look at puts you to sleep because you have difficulties sleeping. The GRNR is the same zzzzz

It’s not only this GMT release. Omega gets bashed constantly for the amount of Speedmaster variations but nothing is ever said about the amount of DayDate variations Rolex churns out.

I think the black and grey GMT will be a slow burn and will have strong consistent sales to the people who want a subdued Rolex like an Explorer 1 or black Submariner but will enjoy the added functionality of the GMT complication. These people generally don't care that much about closely following new releases every year so the voices you're hearing now are the ones who don't want subdued aesthetics and more of the same.

you are comparing apple and orange.

Sub is a diver watch and GMT is a duo time watch, very different

The Bezel isn't won't make the GRNR any more subdued than it's fellow GMT refs as long as it has a polished case & center links.

Agreed, Scott.

Although from my experience here, a lot of our members reserve that "boring" look for their sub/SD, and then want the splash of color in their other watches.

But- at any rate- I couldn't be happier about it. Hopefully, it will end up "less desired" and I'll be able to actually get my hands on one.

The Subs have always been black.

The GMT from the beginning had a bright, two color bezel.

Not the same watch. Not the same history.

If you like the black/gray combo, more power to you. But I find it boring for a GMT and would never buy it. And I say this as someone who owns a Sub.

I like the black/grey better than my BLNR, but I’m not putting my name on any list. I’m happy with my BLNR and can’t afford more watches right now as we’re getting ready to move.

I was one of the first out of the gate to say I like the new GRNR

https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=942843

I think it’s executed perfectly, and will be a beautiful more under the radar GMT

I miss my 116710 and wish I’d never sold it

It is really growing on me. Seeing the videos of it with the jubilee, it really has a bling to it. The green is growing on me.

It was a very predictable and safe Rolex GMT release. This is how Rolex does new models for the most part. Nothing to be disappointed about. Other brands are what you want if new and different is what you are looking for.

Black/grey/green....the perfect blend, I don't see what is wrong with it. I like the watch especially on the Jubilee....but then again and don't wear sports clothes or have my arms inked so I might be in the minority. I don't need my watch to 'pop' either, my social media isn't for watches. I have worn Rolex for the last 34 yrs because they are solid, reliable, waterproof and well engineered. I love the brand.

I think it looks perfectly fine and inoffensive.

My only gripe is wondering why they decided to reuse the green text and GMT hand from the 116710LN. They could've so easily made it it's own "thing" by using a different colour - white, or red, or grey.... anything really. Odd choice, but there we go.

Yeah, that was me. So, what you are saying is there is a history of laziness....j/k of course....mostly.

I'll double down on my earlier comment. I think the black and grey is lazy and uninspiring on the PM and the TT. I would have much rather it been all black (yes, I remember the 710LN). All that said, I find the the PM and the TT to be handsome watches overall and if I had assurance that I wouldn't have another 32 issue would probably get one. Ultimately I don't find the grey to be off-putting enough to reject it outright. I think I can do that and still call it lazy.

Have you actually researched GMT history? Bright (as you put it - which only really came about with the aluminium inserts as the original bakelite bezels were far from "bright") are only part of the GMT history. An all black bezel is a significant part of the GMT heritage.

But let me clarify. So what you are saying is that its ok for the Sub to be monochromatic because its "always been that way" but it's not ok for the GMT to be the same because its previously been and still is available with alternative brighter bezel inserts?

lol. Ok.
