IMHO you can't beat this for the combo of "under the radar" + dual time + great looking + iconic
Just sayin... |

Previous Explorer II and now BLNR. Neither really under the radar (especially the BLNR). If I need to keep it on the dl, I'll wear my Sin U1.

I usually wear my GMTc as my "under the radar" travel watch, however also like to bring my Milgauss on holiday. Marathon MSAR accompanies me when camping or spending a lot of time at the beach. |

Most brands other than Rolex will fly under the radar.
In an ideal world, Patek 5164 Travel Time. |

depends on which country I am going. if the country is relatively safe, I will wear what ever rolex I have on rotation. if I am going to a sketchy / poorer country, I wouldn't even bring in Rolexes in the first place. I would wear a Seiko or something I don't mind losing.
putting valuables in the hotel is even more dangerous. if I have to, it will be in that little safe in the room. |

To be honest that's probably less safe than just wearing it. If you don't go around screaming "I'm wearing a Rolex!", and you stay out of dark alleys you're probably going to be fine. Insure it, wear it. Don't be so soft.

This is usually my travel watch. Less noticeable than my AP or Daytona.

Travel watch threads are always fun to read.
If you are comfortable with your surrounding, it doesn't matter what kind of watch you wear, just wear your favorite watch. But if you are at all concerned about getting mugged, then wear nothing or take along a cheap G-shock. As someone mentioned above, a Patek Aquanaut with rubber straps definitely will go under the radar, more so than any Rolex. |

Have to agree with Brian. This Patek is nearly the perfect travel companion.
I use this regularly as well with no issues/concerns. |

That's my typical casual dress down everyday watch. Without the cyclops, I don't think most people would realize it is a Rolex. It's also a physical monstrosity compared to most Rolexes, so I figure nobody knows what the heck it is. If I'm that worried, I just don't wear a watch, but I can't remember the last time I was in a bad enough environment where I actually worried about it or couldn't just pull my sleeve over it.

My first thoughts when I saw the title of the thread was Explorer or Explorer II.

The travel watch used to be a Omega PO. But its been replaced by the Explorer, although I'm thinking of a Speedmaster Professional to add.

In the past, I would travel with my Explorer II. But now, I wear my BLNR. To be honest, I have never worried about wearing either piece on any of my travels and thus did not pay much attention to what is considered under the radar.

I usually take my Ball Engineer GMT II Red Label with me when traveling. Its stealthy, has the GMT function, and has an extremely comfortable butterfly clasp bracelet. Not to mention that even though all my watches are insured, I feel more comfortable taking a less expensive watch with me when traveling internationally and to places where one might be somewhat apprehensive about bringing a Rolex.

I've travelled all over the world and generally take 3 or 4 watches from my collection with me.
The only time I've thought differently was before a trip to Brazil (Rio) when quite a few of my friends said to be a lot more careful than normal when travelling in Rio. So after much thought, I decided to buy a less expensive watch specifically for the trip. But having done so, and wearing a watch I would not even contemplate wearing in normal life, I realised very quickly that it's you that makes you a target.... not your watch..... Would be muggers and thieves target people not for what you're wearing. They assume that if you look like you would be wearing valuable items, then you are a target, no matter what..... So given that I have insurance anyway, I may as well have worn what I want and not let these "low life" dictate to me what I wear..... If I'm ever mugged, I honestly believe it would have happened whether or not I was wearing a Rolex.....So to change the "safety" factor, you need to change your clothes, your personality, where you eat, drink and visit, to be safe..... And I'm not prepared ever to do that that.... End of story........ |
