I lived in DC for 7 years, but that was decades ago, so I won’t give an opinion on the current state of things there.

But I see this same debate playing out in New York all the time. People actually argue that crime on the subways, for example, is just part of life and should be expected in a big city. If you think otherwise, you’re either a rural rube or a right wing extremist. Of course, that’s nonsense. It wasn’t long ago when NYC, including the subways, was extremely safe. And it’s not hard to do. “Bail reform” and non-prosecution policies have immediate consequences. And that should not surprise anyone.

I’ve never seen this much deliberate ignorance in a TRF thread. So many people refuse to believe independent, reliable statistics they would have believed prior to 2021 (and I suspect they would believe again once their party is back in power). You see the same dynamic with vaccine misinformation, for example. I regret making this post.

You started a thread that said a store was robbed at gunpoint and shots were fired when none of those things actually happened. And then bring up stuff about political parties. And for what? To get the scoop on TRF?

You absolutely should regret this post. The least you could have done was edited it to make it factually correct.

You absolutely should regret this post. Ashamed might be a better word

I shared the initial media reports that said that shots had been fired. As soon as those reports were retracted, I shared that here, too. And I wasn’t the one denying statistics showing that nationwide crime is down. Go to hell.
