Some talk here about omega compete ig with Rolex.
Imho the speedy dial is the best chrono dial made, so where is the issue? Lack of water resistance. Why is this a hurdle for omega? Thickness of case and movement a bit more complicated as the Lemania is so tied to omegas history. Until these two issues are sorted, omega will never take the lead.

I think there’s just too many modern speedies out there for them to ever become highly coveted. I also believe the 321 will fall back to msrp in time. Agree the dial is one of the absolute best. I wish all chronos were 12 hours. I love being able to time longer events.

Ultimately I think it's simply buyer's perceived brand status vs anything tangible, but I would say that Omega's persistence on releasing 30 versions of the same watch sort of dilutes interest - if there were just 3 or 4 speedmasters, demand would be higher for each rather than people diversifying to one of 30. |

I think under the right leadership, Omega can compete with Rolex. I don’t think Reynald is the man unfortunately. Omega has the history and a reasonable product line up (railmaster, seasmaster and Speedmaster). I’m not really sure why they are struggling to move watches at MSRP and often have to discount them to get the deal through. When I look at brands like Richard Mille getting more recognition (for right or wrong reasons) and being more coveted despite only being 21 years old, it’s really sad. Like people pointed above, too many variations of the same watch. Just the Speedmaster alone there’s the 3861 Professional, DSOTM, Snoopy, 321, chronoscope etc. Maybe it’s not Reynald’s fault - he seems like a nice guy and a genuine watch guy. Perhaps being under the Swatch group has led to what it is today.
I don’t water resistance is the issue. It’s a good thing to have but let’s face it - how many of us actually wear these watches to swim? I rather Omega stay true to the root of the Speedmaster - manual wound chronograph without the water resistance. |

But, how many variations of the Daytona are there between SS, TT, PM and all the dials? And now Oyster-Flex as well? Many, many, many more variations than the LEs of Speedmasters.... All the stress about LEs is really overblown, IMHO. Omega makes many great watches, gives many options and, for the most part, makes the product available for seeing and buying. One can find what one likes and actually buy it. That's enough, IMHO, and preferable to constant hype, FOMO, no stock, insane grey prices. As for RM, I'm not sure what that has to do with anything. Rolex isn't on RM level either.... |
