Hmm, tough one!! I have been tumbling the same question arround!

I would really prefer finding a 5512 with four lines rather than a 5513. However, I dream of one with good patina and faded bezel. Finding two in same condition, I would choose the 5512 over the 5513. (obviously talking maxi dials here).

Great choice either way when "a real" example shows up. Stick to this forum.

Btw, Since you're talkin' maxi dials, then get proper year era, and the "Maxi Dial" scoop & info here:

Many feel the 5512 is the collector's choice, but it pays to do you're homework reguarding year/movement/dial type etc...

As an example, movements for the 12 should following the following break down,

from 1959 till about 1964 was with 1530 movement
from 1964/65 till 1966 it came with 1560.
from 1966 till 1978 it came with 1570
up to 1971/72 it came with a 1570 movement with hacking second.

Dial types for gilt/gloss generally are as follows,

- OCC dial w/4lines, "Submariner" in gilt, OCC and depth in silver (outer track)
2- 2 line dial, older font style, gilt "Submariner" and gilt depth (outer track)
3- 2 line w/ newer font style (outer track)
4- SCOC dial w/4lines, "Submariner" in silver, OCC and depth in silver, older font style (outer track)
5- SCOC dial w/4 lines, newer font style (outer track)
6- SCOC dial w/4 lines, underline below "Perpetual" and no outer track (still marked "Swiss", not "Swiss T<25")
7- SCOC dial w/4 lines, no outer track, start of the T<25

The 5512 was discontinued circa 1978.

5513 for me.
They mat be more common, but I prefer the clean uncluttered face as opposed to having too much writing on it... just a thought.

I prefer the 5513 with only 2 lines of text, as compared to either the 5512 or any of the date models. So good looking.
