hand removal on mat dial

Is it safe to use conventional hand remover tools that press against the dial, either levers or the Bergeron Presto type, on a mat submariner dial. Naturally this includes the use of a Bergeron dial protector.

I don't have any idea how soft the mat finish is. When the watch was brand new it was discovered to have a shiny mark on the dial - which Rolex replaced. This makes me think it might be very soft.

I use a thickish piece of plastic sheet with a notch cut in it to slide around the shaft under the hands. I don't know what this stuff is but it is thicker than transparency film, it's like a teflon film or something. I let the feet of the removal tool ride on that and all my dials are matt black on these aircraft clocks, not a mar yet.
