Which used LV to Buy?...3 to choose from
Hi,
I'm going to pick up a used LV in the next couple of days. Which one would be the most desirable for reselling if I’m not in love? The condition is mint for all three. All come with box and papers. All come from solid sellers with lots of successful deals. Option 1: $4,600. Purchased April 2004. F323 serial. Option 2: $4,500. Purchased Nov 2007. Z987 serial. Option 3: Asking $4800. Have not talked price yet. M866 serial. Not sure of purchase date. Comes from authorized Rolex dealer. I would appreciate your guidance. Thanks a lot, Dave |

Easy assuming all are complete package in same condition;
#3 Newer watch from AD. If $300 is your deciding factor you might want to take a step back and reconsider. Best, Mike |

I say buy the oldest. I think they will be worth a bit more one day if you keep it. My co-worker has a F serial that I intend to buy once I have my 1680 sold.

Go with Z .... after Z came M ... but before Z came D (now say this sentence really fast 5 times)
Z is D best ... confusing? Z is the best $$ wise, newness wise, and iwll need servicing later ....even though technically, all 3 are the same. |

Which one do you want..
The F is closest to the original release date, and if it had the oval O, I might go for that one...but I wouldn't pay that much.. Otherwise, I would go for the M.... it's the most fresh...

I believe someone here stated once that the newer series LVs also tend to have a "greener" bezel than the older series, but I have never confirmed this to be the case.

Not that much difference, just weather you want the engraved ring. I personally like the engraving on the new watches.

#1 sounds like an oval O. That would be my choice.

My "Y9.." serial purchased November 2003 had a more sickly pea soup green color compared to the more traditional Kelly green of my current "D". Best, Mike |

I would probably go for #1 - if for no other reason than it should come with an anchor

Listen to your Mods. The F serial is almost certainly an oval "O" model, which is considered by many to be the original "anniversary" watch, even though astute collectors realize the only actual "anniversary" is the Y serial, which is quite rare. As long as it has the original bezel insert, you are looking at much more upside with the F serial than the Z or the M, particularly if it has all of its original goodies, including papers.
My money is on the F.

Z serial for me unless the AD would come down at least $100 -$200 (on the M).

And the winner is:
Option 3: M866
Total Votes: Option 1 (F): 7 votes Option 2 (Z): 3 votes Option 3 (M): 9 votes Thanks for all the input it helped me make an informed decision. When the moderators speak….I listen. But, I think the purists who like the F version are taking a longer term stance on the price appreciation than what I need. My history with the two past Rolex deals has been to resell them in about a month. My priority is losing as little money in the short term if I decide to sell it. I also think that there are fewer purists in the market for an LV if I decide to sell in a few weeks. Based on the comments in the thread they would be more likely to push for a lower price or wait for a “Y” to show up. I wasn’t sure about the engraved inner ring. A poll on this forum showed that 50% preferred the engraving and 25% didn’t care. That’s another plus. Lastly, buying from an authorized dealer makes it’s easier for me to prove that it’s not a fake to potential buyers. That’s pretty much why I bought the M. I’m excited to strap it on and hope it’s a keeper. The watch is like new in box, all papers, etc from Goverb / $4,500 shipped. It was originally purchased in Feb 2009 and my understanding is that the Rolex warranty is transferable. Is that true? Goverb offers additional warranty coverage but it is not transferable. The transaction was smooth. Thanks again, Dave |
