date magnifier fell off
Hi,
I was wiping some water off the face of the watch and the date magnifier fell off. I didn't know this kind of thing happens w/ a Rolex! What kind of glue should be used to put it back on? thanks! |

I'd either take it back or order a new crystal.

Dont do anything yourself (crazy glue, etc.) Take it to your AD or RSC.

It cannot be reattached, you will need a new crystal. If it's under warranty, it will be covered as long as there is no noticeable damage to the crystal.

I've heard of this happening. Did you use rubbing alcohol or some other alcohol based cleaner (Don't tell RLX that you did!)?

I had it for about 8 yrs...no problems until now. I was wiping off the water w/ a paper towel and after a few back and forth, I thought there was something missing...and it was the magnifier! Luckily, I found it on the floor.

You probably whacked it against something, which loosened it. There was a time when it was not uncommon for people to remove the cyclops. (easy JJ, it was a different forum!)

The sapphire cyclops is attached with an adhesive that is activated with UV light, and not something for you to try with your dentists UV light and cement products that are for dental use ONLY !

Best thing is to take it back to your AD and let them sort it out. You might need a new crystal. Good luck - JJ

How could this happen? Did your watch go under water in the past couple of days. Very sorry that happened.

When you mentioned the word "butchers", Paul, it just got me wondering what the NEW weight of the watch would now be sans cyclops!!

I have seen a vintage 1680 without a crystal. Both of us were volunteers at a PGA golf tournament and were taking a break. I was kinda staring at the watch since it looked like a Seadweller but not exactly. I asked and he showed it to me and said it fell off and the AD told him to not change the original crystal. Interesting thread since i am looking at getting a second crystal for my 15 year old Sub and removing the cyclops. I don't use the date and like the cleaner look.

Look at a photo of a Daytona or a milgauss...that's what the crystal will look like ;-)
