Red Sub

Going to look at a Red Sub from the 70's....dont know if feet/meters or meters/feet but know that it's been worn for years. What's a fair price to pay considering that is has 35 years of wear?? I'm going to try and get the serial number. Your help is apprecaited. Thanks

Market is USD $8k to $13k depending on the condition and if it has all the goodies.
www.doubleredseadweller.com is a great source for starters.

She may give you a great deal on it. Plus it has sentimental meaning. I can't wait to see how this works out. I'm keeping an eye out for a pic thread of your new watch if all goes well. When are you going to visit, and see the watch?

As Jocke said good pics of dial/case/lugs/caseback, and serial number range help a ton.

What if it is not real and you have paid REAL GOOD money for it?
Can't leave this stone unturned.
Can you tell if it not real?
Good Luck ....
Sorry to put a little fear in your heart.

Wow...I'm an idiot....I got the watch in my hands.....its a GMT Master...not a red sub...my friend was a pilot and I should have known...anyway...I removed the bracelet and the watch says Registered Design 1675 at the 12 oclock position and 2061300 at the 6 oclock position on the watch case. The bracelet is pretty well worn out. I will post pictures in a while. It is a neat old GMT though. The case back has a number inscribed on it R0855336 whatever that means....look like it was done with an engraver to me??

That caseback engraving doesn't sound original Rolex , maybe your friends family may know what it stands for . The watch is from 69/70 by the serial . 1675 is sought after as well even they may not fetch the same money as a RED SUB .

Should clean up nicely.
Maybe replacement dial and GMT hand as it does not match the other 3 hands?

AS I said, its old and I dont have a GMT...It could use a trip to the doctors i'm sure but it's running just fine. May need a new Nato band of some sort. May need a trip to Dalton for a make-over. I still have to pay for it and need a fair price to pay. I want to make sure I pay what is right for it

If I were you I'll just return it.
By the time you are through with it, only the inside is original - and who knows once you open the inside you'll see things you do not like.

Yeah...I think I will give it back....it's a knock off and I am very concerned about the Japanese movement inside...What surprises me is the Japanese movement that is still running after 40 years....un-believable... and it was never serviced. I dont think I will ever buy another real Rollie! I cant believe the battery is still running. They make em good!
