Rolex marketing

I've been watching the Olympics and what a disappointment that Omega and not Rolex is the official time keeping sponsor. I'm not Omega bashing (I own and enjoy Omegas) - it just seems like Omega has recently been much more aggressive in marketing than Rolex... case in point - the rebooted Bond movies. I guess Rolex just doesn't feel the need to fight back? The Audi ads tweaking BMW are funny though.

There's plenty of Rolex advertising out there, but it tends to focus on sports that Rolex feels affiliated with. You'll notice heavy sponsership with Tennis, Golf, Sailing and, to a degree, motor sport.

Excellent point! I hadn't thought about that as I don't watch much tennis or sailing. I guess I should have said that Rolex marketing doesn't seem very focused on my demographic - the working class - as much as Omega. I guess the target market is the more affluent and well-heeled segment?

Yeah, I missed the Oysterquartz in the mens' downhill...

When your definition of perfection is -4 to +6 a day, you're probably not the right watch company for the job.

Go for a wonder in SW London on a Saturday and the closer you get to Wimbledon the more Rolex ads you see....

As long as they keep showing Lindsay Vonn wearing one, I'm happy!

I see much more Rolex advertising but the Olympics have always been Omega territory.

I think so, Rolex's current ethos seems to focus on luxury as opposed to ruggedness - it's not really the same brand that led the way in sports watches during the '50s and '60s. Then again, every brand has it's own advertising angle - Omega and TAG focus on sports, Breitling and Bell & Ross go for the aviation angle, and Patek concentrates on their watches being an heirloom.
