This is a show made by Discovery Channel.

The start of the show, Bear Grylls goes to remote areas and illustrates how one might survive.

After watching the show many times I saw tonight for the first time that Bear Grylls now wears a Breitling Emergency with rubber strap.

Quite a solid watch, I wonder if he purchased it or Breitling sponsored him.

The Breitling Emergency consists of a transmitter which is activated (for 48 hours) by unscrewing a protective cap and pulling the antenna out fully. Over flat terrain or calm seas, the transmitter signal has a range of about 160Km (assuming the search aircraft is flying at an altitude of 6000m).

The watch is 43mm with a titanium case and a black dial.

I read somewhere that the Breitling Emergency was given to him as part of a sponsorship deal for his Everest climb. It is engraved, on the caseback with the date of his everest climb.

Bremont is also one of his watch sponsors. I noticed in he sported a yellow Emergency in some of his espiodes (now Black). He worn a few Casio G-shock in some of the earlier espiodes as well.

I haven't seen the dude wearing the yellow Emergency but I do myself like maybe an orange one

These watches have the 'superquartz' movement so they are very accurate.

I heard somewhere that the emergency systems are going to a different frequency, thereby making the Emergency obsolete. Can anyone confirm or correct this?

I think he worn it in the earlier season, I like the yellow Emergency on him or my wrist!

I'm pretty sure I've seen him wear a g-shock from time to time, although I haven't really watched his newest season, It seems quite a bit differant than his first couple of seasons. I like the 1st and second season best.

I would call it obsolescent.

Having something beep on VHF Guard beats the heck out of having no transmitter.

On the flip side, a little vhf transceiver that runs on rechargable batteries would take up almost no weight in your survival gear, so if you are going to take the time and expense to buy a Breitling emergency.....
