Hello from The Woodlands, Texas USA
Hello everyone. I'm Kevin from The Woodlands, Texas. A community just north of Houston. I'm searching for my first 'grown up watch.' I am completely uninformed with respect to fine watches. My only other venture into the better timepieces was a Longines that my mother gave me to celebrate flying solo for the first time. I wore the watch for the past 30 years until it stopped working this week.
My first challenges are what Rolex to buy and where to buy it. I am looking forward to reading the posts on this site and learning more about Rolex. |

Welcome Kevin
Well I'm sure you will see many great watches here to we your appetite. Your first solo flight must be an experience to remember. So are you still flying? If so a GMT-Master would be the natural Rolex model to consider.

welcome to the forum Kevin.
the Gmt-master would be a nice first/only Rolex.A stainless submariner w/date would be a great 1st rolex too,a true classic, you can't go wrong with either watches.if you decide on a sub,the new model will be available this fall.i use to live in the woodlands, cochrans crossing area, really nice community. good luck

Thank you all for the welcome and the recommendation. I'm going today to talk to the jewelers. I'm looking forward to making this a fun experience.
Yes, Lol-x, It was a great adventure to learn to fly. I went on to fly for the military and the airlines. I strongly recommend it to anyone. Even if you have no desire to fly more than a solo. It takes between eight and twelve hours of flying and is so much fun. etp095, yes, I love The Woodlands. You'd be surprised at how much it has grown in such a short time. Thanks, again for the welcome. |

Well that reinforces my recommendation to you, the GMT either the current model or any of the what we call vintage models made anywhere from the 1960's through to 2009 there are a lot of different GMT's to choose from. The GMT was first made famous by Pan-Am where their pilots were advertised wearing that model as it is capable of tracking the time in a secondary timezone with it's additional 24 hour hand. Good luck and I hope you will enjoy the flight

Hello Kevin, I am in Sugar Land TX. There is no real "starter" Rolex I dont think, since your probably going to spend a couple thousand on a watch you might as well find something you really like and just get it done right the first time so you dont have regrets every time you check the time. I opted for a daydate because I saw a bunch of guys wearing it in movies I liked (Patrick Bateman- American Psycho) also the two tone really tickles my fancy. Thanks to Rolex's I have been very attracted to gold. I use to always think gold as being out fashioned and old but im starting to dig it.
Thing about the Submariner, GMT Master, and Sea Dweller is they look so similar. If you dont know your Rolex's people are just going to assume your wearing a SS Submariner if you get a GMT or Sea Dweller. |
