For the GMT Experts....

A gentleman in my area is selling his GMT I on original Rolex jubilee bracelet with the red/blue bezel. The seller does not have the boxes or papers however; he does have the paperwork from getting the watch serviced about 5 years ago at an AD in the area (who then sent it to NY for servicing). Now, I have not a clue why he is selling a 20 year old GMT perhaps he is not a watch guy, I really don’t know.

Problem is this, I am interested in checking the watch out and making an offer but I honestly have NO idea what this should be going for. Without box or papers and without the older gentleman knowing the serial how I could get some info on this watch? Additionally, provided I do get the serial info is this something worth buying at a good price? What would a good price be for something like this?

Any GMT experts out there who would share their thoughts? Thanks!

If he is in your area you must certainly attempt to SEE the watch. Condition of the case, bezel, bracelet are all important to determining the value of a 20 year old GMT. Has it been his daily beater in the five since servicing, or has it been in the safe? Is it keeping good time? What about the dial and hands? Take a loupe when you go to see it. Take good close-up digital pictures if he will allow it. Only then will we be in a position to give you good advice as to it's value.

It's really tough to say without good scans. The watch could be 2kish to 3.5k depending on reference(1675,16750,....), type of dial, condition of hands and dial, lugs,etc..
Since the watch was serviced and paper exists, does the paper give and indication of reference, ser. no. or what was done? If Rolex paperwork all should be listed.
Still the bracelet should be removed to verify. Pics would be great. At twenty years(give or take) I can think of three references for a GMT-MASTER,

1675--should hack and be non-quick set, acryllic crystal, matt dial no WG surrounds


16750--hack, quick-set, matt dial Tall Coronet"--most valuable


16750--same as above except with gloss dial WG surrounds,

Thanks, based on the 1 pic I saw the watch is either 1 or 2 as shown above. I know the markers are not applied. I am trying to get some info but they are a bit older and very helpful but just dont have a clue what I am asking for.

The serial number should be on their Rolex paperwork (from the service).

Did all these years have an option of the Jubilee bracelet offered by Rolex? That might narrow the model down for us if it was only done for a few years...

The Jubilee bracelet became an option on the GMT around 1970 so at twenty years it was correct on all.

Scary to think a 20 year old watch as being mid to late 1980's...
