Does Anyone Ever Hear Their Navitimer Winding?
I have a Navitimer that is about 2 years old, and sometimes... quite often, in fact, if I move a certain way, I can hear it winding. The first time I heard it was in a quiet office. I couldn't tell the sound was coming from my watch. A day or so later, I heard it again. All of a sudden I figured it out -- THAT SOUND IS MY WATCH! Now, when I hear it, I often wonder, "Do other people hear my watch winding?" It's not the kind of sound you have to press your ear against the watch to hear.
Does anyone else experience this? Is something wrong? Thanks! |

Nothing is wrong. I've had several Breitlings that made a noise whenever the ballast moved. This was more common in certain movements, but the newer are fairly silent. I had a Superocean from the early 2000's that did the same. I read up on noisy breitling movements, and realized it was just fine.
How is the timing, and power reserve? |

I don't have a Breitling but I do have a watch that does that. I get the winding sound with my Bremont, never on my Rolex.
Nothing is wrong with mine and like you I first noticed it sitting at my desk in a silent office. Mine is faint it would need to be silent to hear it I doubt anyone could hear it during a conversation. |

As Paul stated,it's normal!! I had an older (95') Navitimer and you could hear it wind all the time.....

Thanks, Everyone!
I appreciate the good information. I was afraid I was looking at at service call... and yes, the power reserve seems adequate, so I think the winding mechanism is working properly... it's just that I never hear it on any other watch I own, so I was concerned.
Thanks again! |

It is because the Rotor on Rolex winds both sides and in the ETA is not.
They cal it the Breitling wobble, sometimes you can even feel it. Jack |

The wobble is cool, wait till you feel it on your wrist for the first time. My Twin Sixty caught me off guard once with it.

Glad I found this thread gives me some relief to my concerns. I have a Navitimer for little over a year now and she just started making the wobble noise. Never noticed that noise before, that's why I figured there must be something wrong.

Good point. If its the older version with the ETA movement, then you're hearing and feeling the telltale Valjoux unidirectional wind. If its a newer Navi with the B01 movement, then you're hearing the unlubricated ceramic ball bearings in the rotor.
Either way it's all good. |
