Faking a Kermit

I asked my AD what was to keep people from buying Kermit bezels and sticking them in regular SUBS to make a few extra hundred on flips. He said that he thought that there were internal safeguards, but would not elaborate. I realize that someone in the know would be able to decipher a maxi dial, but a newbie to Rolex would not. So I wondered if there is a hinge or lock that prevents a greenie bezel from fitting into a regular sub, or if you HAVE to have a Kermit to order a Kermit bezel? Just curious.

i thought the green bezel is a little bit thicker than the regular black bezel.

I also thought that the hour markers are bigger (maxi-dial).

I think I remember reading a few people mentioning here on the forum that they were planning on swapping out the green bezel for a standard black bezel as the green wasn't "working for them". This to me indicates that the green like the black is inter-changeable.

I think the issue lies in trying to get Rolex to send you a green bezel if you don't have the LV Sub.

You could always try and get an owner of an LV to get you a green bezel (assuming there is NO exchange program in place), it all depends on how co-operative the owner of an original LV would be. As Rolex owner's try hard to be as original as they can, I doubt you can find an LV owner who'd be willing to help you out.

No I understand. I have the LV and was just curious. Like I said, some novices not aware of the maxi dial could get swindled by someone on Ebay or somewhere else trying to make a few, not too many, but nonetheless a few hundred extra dollars on a supposed Kermit sale.

Not to mention there are many aftermarket bezels, you can get it in nearly any color you choose if you look at the bay etc etc

Right, but Rolex will be very careful to prevent dilution of a brand or a particular watch, so I imagine one cannot easily go out and just order up an official greenie bezel to self creat a Kermit looking sub.

so.. what's the point of this thread?

You can fake a kermit by swapping out the bezel, minute hand, and dial... but it'll get turned back to a standard sub if it ever goes back to Rolex for a service.

The cost of going through all this would definitely negate any $ the seller hopes to make.

I'd rather do it the other way round. Take the green bezel OFF the Kermit and replace it with a black one.

Green isn't one of my fav colors.

One of the guys on another Forum has done just that. Get the great maxi dial with the traditional black sub bezel.

There was no great purpose of the thread. I was just curious if illicit sellers had tried to swap it out an make a few bucks. The price point wouldn't be big, but a bezel is not that expensive, and a naive Rolex buyer might not know about maxi dial and think it was a LV. Thanks for the comments.
