Help!! Rolex Sub Gaining Time Rapidly

Hi TRF Members,

I need some help and advice, I have a mid 80's Non Date Sub with Acrylic Crystal. I had the watch for appx 18 years. I have had it serviced and I take good care of it. It is my daily watch. Just today I noticed it starting running fast, I mean very fast , it is gaining appx 4+ Minutes an hour. Using an atomic clock I was seeing it gaining about 10 seconds a every minute. What would cause this ?? I going monitor it overnight to see how time it gains.

I never seen anything like it. The watch has been rock solid for years.

I am planning on sending it RSC In Beverly Hills, What will it cost for Rolex to do service on the watch. How long will it take. Any speculation on what the cause could be ??

Thanks for your help. Love the forum

Well first when did you get it serviced, its possible that there is oil on the hairspring balance spring,or even perhaps its crossed.Another possibility your watch has become magnetised, but sure it can be sorted out quite easily at the RSC welcome to TRF.You could have it checked by a reliable watchmaker before you sent it to the RSC its most probably something very simple these older Rolex movements are quite bullet prove.

Per Padi's comments, it could have been magnetized accidentally or hairspring could have been tangled.

Just bring it to your trusted watch service person.

Good luck.
