Grey Market Buying Questions

Hello Everyone,

I've posted a few times and am trying to boost what little knowledged i have of Rolex Watches. I've decided on a SS/PT Yachtmaster and am beginning to look for AD to buy from if can find reasonable discount, but haven't discounted buying on grey market. As i understand, buying grey market, even if box and papers intact, will preclude you from the Rolex Warranty only given to original buyer when purchased through AD, correct? If a "authentic" Rolex were purchased on grey market, may it be serviced through a RSC for a fee, or not? If buying grey market, what are the things i need to ask and make sure accompany the watch? Also, any recommendations on reputable grey market sellers? Alan Furman appears to have good pricing, anyone have any experience with them, either positive or negative.. I think i'll probably buy through an AD, but when taking into account tax and MSRP, appears grey market may be up to a couple thousand less, but want all the facts of buying either way before i make a decision.. thanks for your help.

I bought from a great Grey Market dealer in California. If out of state, no tax. PM me if you would like the info. I was very pleased with the deal. Watch was BNIB with all papers.

If you buy from a grey market...only the warranty from Rolex will be void. I bought my sub from grey and saved about $1200 no tax. NOt great to not bad for a sub. Came brand new with box and legit papers...no problem. To me that was worth the savings and thank god I did because I ended up selling it anyways and took a lesser loss. As for servicing the watch with rolex...its fine Rolex won't care if you get it serviced if your paying for the service. They just wont warranty it thats all. But just make sure you buy from a good grey dealer...some can be stolen or used or anything.

Honestly when you buy grey..it usually has off shore out of country papers. But I can't see why rolex wouldnt warranty it if you say you bought it out of the country or got it as a gift. Has anyone here tired that?

I think the Rolex warranty is overrated. Most grey market dealers give you a warranty as well.
swissluxury.com is who I used for my dad's sub and had a wonderful experience and saved a boat load (no tax).
Rolex will service grey market watches at their standard service fees.

So let's compare pices on a TT Blue Sub, removing taxes from the equation:
At preownedrolex.com there are two for $5000
New (list) is $7850
Grey market is what - $6200?

I'm ready to pull the trigger on one of these, so this information is timely (pun intended...)

$5K on a preowned one is an excellent price. If the preowned one is a D-series or even an F-series, very good buy. Just need to check out the condition of the watch and its authenticity....that's all!!

"T" goes back to around 1996 and "A" goes back to around 1999.

"F" would be around 2004, but you'd get it with the SEL bracelet, no lug-holes, coronet laser etching on the crystal and, MOST IMPORTANT, the 18 K gold running right through the clasp.

I'd get the "F" for the extra 600 bucks!!!

I would definitely go Grey Market BNIB. I prefer knowing that I am the first one to wear the watch.

Being a brand new kinda guy myself, I'd say $6200 for a new one is a great price. Just make sure you know whom you're dealing with and everything is authentic. That said....go for it and best of luck on the deal!!
