Torn between TT Blue Sub / SS no date Sub / Mid Size YM

Dear TRF Colleagues:

I feel torn in multiple directions...

After a solid six weeks of thinking, I was sure that I wanted a mid-sized Yachtie. I have a smallish wrist and felt that this mid-size looked well scaled to my small bones. I was leaning towards the TT with serti dial because I wanted to show a touch of flash - but no bling, bling.

I just spent the better part of this afternoon with my AD. I have known my salesman for almost 17 years and have a relationship based on trust. He has worked very hard to get me out of the mid-size YM. He thinks that it is just too small and dimunitive on my wrist. He feels that it weakens my image and does not enhance it.

When I look at the mid-sized YM directly on my wrist it looks good to me. But when I see it on, in a full length mirror, it looks a touch boyish.

My salesman wears a TT Blue Sub. He got me to wear his around for a while. It turns out that his is perfectly sized for me. He feels really strongly about this one on my wrist. He says that it speaks of strength and just a hint of attention-grabbing flash. I believe that he has a point. I just find it a little big on me when I look directly at it, and still a touch big in the full length mirror.

I tried the SS no date Sub. I really liked it. I felt that it had better scale on my wrist. I liked its clean elegant look. My salesperson hates it. He says that it has no flash whatsoever, and that it is not even COSC certified. He likened it to a tourist buying an Air King. (No offence to Air King owners - I like them too, but am looking for more at this time.)

What are your opinions?

My criteria are:

1. a touch of flash; and,
2. good scale to my smallish 6.5" wrist.

The candidates are:

• TT mid-sized YM with Serti
  
• TT Blue Sub
  
• SS no date Sub

I have my blue arabic Air King on right now and can't wait to get mt TT Blue Sub back on. It calls to me...daily. Best Rolex ever in my very humble opinion.

I'll back the TT as well. I never liked the Yachtmaster and the SS no date is too plain.

Well, Tomko, to be perfectly honest with you, the mid-size is a complete waste of money. For some reason, I dislike that size....which seems neither here nor there.

And between the no-date Sub and the TT Blue pictured above, it's a no contest. Of course, you would be paying much more; but, at the end of the day, if you really want total satisfaction, the Blue Sub is a cracker....and one you'll never get tired of looking at!!

Out of the three I would get the TT sub.
If you know you already look boyish why get the mid size watch?
A larger watch is fashionable right now.
You already admitted you wanted flash but not bling; the SS no date sub is not all that flashy and the serti dial may be a little blingy. What about a serti yachtmaster?

Does one make you feel more proud than the other? Does it "smile at you"? Are you just settling on his stock? Why not shop around at different places to find the right one you want then go to your trusted AD to buy?

Hi Tomko,

I've got this TT Mid Size YM from my father. It's wonderful and I love it because it's something that my parent gave to me... But if I had the chance to choose I prefer to have a full size...(either a TT YM or TT Sub).

But if you want to see a nice picture of a midsize TT YM, here it is (14 years old and still looks great)...

As much as I love the TT sub, out of those choices SS sub all the way.

i personally wouldnt buy a sub without a cyclops unless it wassomething like a sea dweller. i wouldnt go with the mid size YM either. I dont like YM's that much neither... blue sub. yeah.

I too have a small wrist size 6.5in. Just out of experence...I came from a Date 34mm and now at the 40mm full size yachmaster. Its actually perfect for my wrist. I thought at first the 34mm date was perfect but felt a little boyish too. 40mm is big at first for us smaller wrist people its not as big as you think. When I got a 44mm panerai was when I realized that that was too big. But after wearing the panny and going back to the 40mm its was perfect. But if your considering sub then Go with a FULL size TT yachtmaster or the TT Sub. I was thinking of getting the Mid size too and I know now forsure if i did I would have regretted it. I also use to own a mid size Seamaster too which is now too small for me, so its sold. Im never getting a mid size again..except the 40mm panny. ..but trust me youll regret it.

The BTW its all in your fist size not the wrist size. ..if your fist is big than it wont look bad.

I would choose Sub ND coz it suits every occasion. From office to the beach, wearing cuffs without worrying it won't fit etc.

Do you also looked at the Explorer 1? It's 36mm and it has a gorgeous clean look too.

Please, go try the TT or the white gold bezel new TOG with the red second hand. I love that watch, and have a tiny bit of regret that I got the LV, although in a Rolex world there will always be this regret because they have it rigged so that one likes another niche a bit so one will feel that kind of melancholy of not having it all. But that sentiment should be ignored. Find what you want and it will satisfy as my LV actually does, but look at that TOG for me cause it is just bitchin handsome on any wrist and moreso on a smaller wrist. I will get one someday.

Go for the full 40mm size.

I have a small wrist too, around 6.5 inch girth. But I have been wearing a lot of full sized watches, like Zenith El Primero, Fortis Cosmonaut, Seiko Orange Monster.

And now the TT GMT Master II, root beer. I feel that mid-size is just way too small.

Well, the Orange Monster was a huge watch but it sat on the wrist quite well.

Go for the full sized.

The interesting thing about the TOG though is that although the watch face is only 34mm, the rest of the watch makes it look bigger, especially with the white face. It is a definitely handsome watch. I look forward to it as my last.

BTW did you see that film with Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansen...they were hotel guests in Tokyo? That was a platinum President I think he was wearing, and it looked BIG. A good watch can look big.

Have you tried out an Explorer II with with either the White or Black face dials? Thinner and a bit smaller in Diameter than the Sub. May fit your wrist better.

Also the Full size Yachtmaster. tried on teh full size TT and SS on ethe other day, they fit really well. MOre smothed out and thinner than a Sub.

I just measured my wrist and it is 6.5 inches in diameter. My AD told me to get over it. He's from Spain and he told me that if I have the ganas it doesn't matter what size my wrist is.

I love that clean look of the Sub no date. Simple, classic, elegant.

The Explorer 1 really fits me nicely, but I don't like numbers on my dial. I prefer indices.
