I think if you wind it up and let it runs at lest 40 hours a month you will be OK.

Well with the modern synthetic oils today its not much of a problem. But just a small manual wind say once a month will be sufficient.Just to keep the very very small amount of oil around all the moving parts.

I've done this for a long time with no ill effects.

I suppose if the watch sat for years it'd be a good idea to get it serviced prior to wear.

Well Mike a few years ago now I bought two Rolex Tudors from a guy in Germany he was selling his collection. They were both new in box from the late 60s,never been worn still with case stickers etc.Now just gave them a small wind and they worked perfect, but had them checked by my watchmaker mate. But there was still plenty of oil,and he said they were fine.I sold the gents, but my wife has been wearing now for around 3 years plus the ladies one, without any problem. But now I have recently had a service done, but my friend remarked how clean the movement was, and has always been a remarkable timekeeper.

Of course to time the 40 hours, you need another Rolex.

Oh sure! I've had watches go a long time between service. I know a couple people that have unearthed vintage pieces that sat in a "sock drawer" for years and the watches worked fine.

That's a great excuse for buying a second. Love it!
