Trying to date my Date
I recently inherited my pops Date. I took it to a jeweler in the Atlanta Gift Mart who said they specialized In Rolexes and they told me a couple of things that are different than I have seen on this board. They told me that because it has a plastic crystal and has open pin openings on the case that it is from the early 80's. They told me that the difference between a Date and a Datejust was that the Datejust was easier to set. Anyway here's what I have, I would sure appreciate any help in determining the age:
Perpetual Date Steel case with Gold Fluted Bezel Plastic Crystal Two tone Jubile Band Gold face with angled squares instead of sticks I can't figure out how to post a photo from my iPad but I will post one on as soon as I can. |

The Date is 34mm and the DateJust is 36mm.
If it has a plastic crystal then it would most likely be 1970's to early 1980's. Take off the bracelet and see on the sides of the watchcase. That will give you a more accurate indication of 1. the model number; and 2. the serial number.

If you look in the reference section there's a posting with a table of dates vs serial numbers. Looks like yours would date from about 1983.
