Time Gained or Lost

How do you measure if an automatic watch has gained or lost time? I'm asking this so I can write a poorly written review on the yellow monster.

There are several ways....I think there is a very good world clock on the internet; but here's how I do it...

Tune in to any local AM station on your radio....a station which sounds the SIX beeps on the hour, every hour.

The first beep should sound when the second hand (centre sweep) of your watch touches '11' and the 6th beep when the sweep hand touches '12'.

AM Radio? What is this...the 1930's!?!?

http://www.time.gov is a good web based atomic clock. Just sync your watch to the time on the website and then compare your watch to that same clock again tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day, and the next day

Tyler don't get to hung up about how accurate your watch is,it will take
a few weeks to wear in.Just wear it mate and enjoy your mechanical
watch. Most Seiko's out of the box are around + - 15 secs a day some better
But like most mechanical movements today, can easily be regulated to C.O.S.C standards. If you have a quartz watch set that one,to something like a radio station time pips, then check your watch over a week at the same time daily over the week to give you a average..

Tyler, don't listen too closely to JJ. In case you haven't figured it out yet, he is completely anal about his watches. Padi has it right. Set it against a known accurate time signal (the one Sam suggests is excellent) and then check it again in about a week. If you check it exactly one week after you set it, then through the magic of simple math, you can calculate how fast or slow yours is running. If it's off more than +/- 15 seconds per day, you can probably take it back to the AD and have them adjust it to within COSC tolerances.

But do not get hung up on accuracy. As we have discussed in the other thread, if you only want accuracy, buy a Casio (or other) R/C quartz. But somehow, I don't think that's why you got the Seiko - which was a great choice for a "starter" watch, BTW.

I have a few comments about this subject.....
1. I was extremely anal when I first got into mechanical watches, I think that is normal, now I have only a slight clue where they stand and that is okay. I am pretty sure that they are really close, if they aren't then it will be service time.

2. time.gov is a very good place to check if you must know exactly.

3. Sam's comment about 8 track made me ROTFLMAO!!!

Excuse me, I don't understand why he should LYAO. I would think it more appropriate for him to LHAO. But that's JMHO.
