My Submariner

Hi.

Here is my watch. It is a 20 year old (bought May 1987) Date Submariner. I got it for my 13th birthday and it has just gone in for servicing. I am missing it already despite only being away for 4 weeks.

It is having the dial replaced as it is suffering from "spider cracks" which appeared in the last couple of years. I rather it didn't but the service guy wouldn't guarantee the service. :( I tried to persuade them but fell on deaf ears. I just hope it comes back looking still good. I will never sell it

It went in for a service orginally as it was losing a fair amount of time. That is all I wanted originall to be sorted out.

Very nice!

Please let us see photos of your baby when it arrives back from servicing. You could do some "before/after" pics.

I'm sure you will be very pleased when it is back home safe and sound. Cheers!!!

I was going to do that anyway. They said the watch gets tested for about a week before being sent back so, it probably be another week at least.

Still no phone call to say it has come back. Does it sound strange that I am really missing a watch? My wrist doesn't feel right as it is too light.

I started having horrible thoughts that they will make the watch look worse than it did. I really hope they try to match the dial the best they can do. For some reason, I thought they would have spare matching components for each version of watch for a swap over.

20years, you sure took care of it. I will get a picture of my 29year old sub. It is also in great shape, at least for now, I gave it to my 26 year old son last year when I got my new Rolex, he better take care of it as I did.

That's the beauty of these fine watches (including Omegas, Breitlings, Pams). You can pass it on to your family.

My son is only 21 months old, but I do hope that I can pass these watches on to him.

Would you like to adopt me, Vernon?

At last. I just got a call and my watch is ready to pick up. I pick it up at weekend. It has been a long 10 weeks.

I think I will get a auto watch winder to make sure it is kept running nice.

I got it back today and very, very pleased with it. I am amazed at the condition of it. It has new glass, new dial and new bezel. I am also amazed at the how well the bracelet has polished up.

The first pic is a comparison with the pre service condition (on the left).

Here is a zip files of the pics I took. They are the original size but cropped.

It does doesn't it. I am wearing it at the moment and can't stop looking at it. It is so shiny and the glass is reflective that I kept getting the camera reflecting back.

It was a long wait for it but it was worth it. Plus, I didn't have to pay for the service and parts. My Father paid it for me as a early Birthday present.

I will. He is very pleased with the results as well.

Is it worth getting a automatic watch winder for it ? Now it has been serviced, I want to keep it running the best I can. I plan to wear it during the day as I used to but will take it off at night.

I wouldn't bother with a winder. If you wear it for even 8 hours in a whole 24 hours.....that's more than enough to keep the main-spring at OPTIMUM tension.

Ok, interesting. Is it worth it getting one anyway if I can get one if I can get one cheap like this Watch Winder on ebay. I won't be wearing it if i think it can be damaged.

Just as a cautionary note, a cheap winder can cause more harm and damage to your watch. DON'T DO IT!!

Just let the natural movements and motion of your wrist do the work. A cheap winder will only bring you grief....please trust me on this one.
