Do you pressure test your watches every year ???

Hello everybody,

I just had a look at Tag website, they recommend that their watches should contact water for only the 1st 12 months after service or new, after that, have the watches pressure test every year, if not, never take the watches into water, even cleaning activities, have to use dry cloth . So what's your opinion of :

1/ Do you pressure test your Rolexes every year ??

2/ How long will the O ring and gaskets of Rolexes last ???
( According to the Tag website, the O ring and gaskets only last for 1-2 year )

Well if you don't use watch for diving but say a occasional dip in the pool or in the shower then normal routine 5 year service time will be fine.Now if you use watch for regular diving then a 6 month to 12 month pressure check.Only dive say a couple of times a year but spend quite a bit of time in the wet stuff then pressure check around every two years.Most high street watchmakers can test to 200m if it passes that test it will be fine for normal scuba, plus any other water activity, the seals are good for 5-7 years normal use.

I don't dive with my watches so it's not necessary. I'd just wait until it's time for service.

I don't dive, so I don't think this will ever be a concern for me. Normal service time should work just fine for me.

I don't, but probably should....at least the ones I dive with. I'd doubt that swimming or other contact with water of this nature would warrant an annual check though...

I used to get seals replaced every year regardless until I took in my first Rolex. The AD's Rolex technician told me it wasn't necessary for Rolex and recommended two-to-three years depending on how much I dived with them. I returned my SD when it was three years old to have the seals replaced and it came back all packaged up but with no paperwork and no charge, so whether Rolex changed them or just tested it I don't know (although the AD said they had replaced them). I've been diving this year with all my watches - SD, Sub, Omega PO x2 and both Breitling Seawolves and each of them is either about two years old, or last had seals replaced two years ago, with no problems.

Good question! I have often wondered the same thing as Rolex recommends a pressure check about 18 months or so. I do not dive and the only exposure my watches would get to water is a dip in the swimming pool or when I clean them with mild soap and water on a regular basis. I would say it all depends on how the watch is used and what effect daily activity would have on the gaskets(if the watch takes a lot of abuse daily). I just wait until service to have it checked. The AD in my area has to send the watch off to Rolex for a pressure test. Seems kind of silly to me as the equipment isn't that complicated and I've heard of many AD's that will test while you wait.

I try to. Buddy has the Rolex pressure testing machine right in his shop (unlike the lame-o AD with the watchmaker on site).

Yes, I do pressure test em every year, as it goes deep, twenty feet, is my idea of deep, La Jolla Shores shallows...

Every 2-3 years for my 14060M. I dive 75+ dives/year with it.

No pressure test but check and silicon grease the o-rings every spring, also check for any tendency for corrosion under caseback. Only takes a few minutes with the right tools.

I do on my 1680 due to the plastic crystal. The bezel ring can cause micro cracks over time. It may pass a test one day...and then fail in a few months. I get it tested in March or so before the summer every year.

And yes, I do dive with it....it isn't like it is a double red or red sub.....

Plus, you can pop off the crystal and ring with a razor blade in order to dry it out if it fogs up.

No, but I probably should. Several get down to 100ft plus 30-40 times a year. I have never had more than 5 year service done on any, and not a leak ever. I may just be lucky.

What? I never have taken it diving; and it survives one atmosphere, with the occasional pool, which does not equal slightly to a full second atm. The answer is no.
