Hi all, Steve from NJ here.
I just picked up my first Rolex last week. It is a beautiful pre-loved stainless steel Submariner. It is an old style and starts with an F. I purchased it from Palisade Jewelers in Englewood, NJ. Two people I know had purchased used from there and gave them a good recommendation. I hope I made a good decision here. Anyway, I had been admiring the sub for years and not sure why I waited so long to get one, but better late than never…I love this watch and I am real happy to have this baby on my wrist! I want to do the best I can to keep this watch in great running condition and have a few questions. How long should this watch continue running when it is off my wrist? Twice, I took it off at night, did not wear it the next day and the following morning it was stopped. Is this a normal amount of time? If the watch stops, is it ok to wind it? If so, how many times and in which direction? I would like to get an automatic winder for the watch. Do I need a bidirectional winder? Are there any recommendations on a descent one that won’t break the bank? I am sure I will have more questions along the way but sure would appreciate some help with these first few.  Very good questions. Someone more qualified than me will help you out  However the power reserve of a fully wound 16610 is around 42 hours. One thing you have to consider is whether your watch is fully wound when you leave it at night. You can wind your watch by turning the crown in the clockwise direction. It takes about 40 winds to be fully wound. You cannot over wind your watch and you should be able to feel additional resistance on the crown when it is fully wound. You can't damage your watch by winding it.

Welcome to TRF.
No one ever really needs a watch winder. It is more of a conveinance than anything else. If the watch stops take time to set it and wind it back up and you will be good to go. It helps to have them more if the watch has numerous complications which would take more time to get right before wearing the watch. Rolex watches don't have that many complications, and in your case all you would ever have to worry about is the date.

Did you wind your watch fully when you got it?
If not, that's probably the reason it stopped running when you took it off that first night. I wear mine for only about 8-10 hours a day and it never stops and I never wind it by hand. You should be able to do this too. Welcome aboard.

Welcome to TRF!! I wouldn't waste my money on a winder. When I wear my watches which I change weekly- I wind them 40 times. That keeps them going for the week till they go back to the bank for the swap.
