Hi all,

Longtime lurker and figured it's time join as I'm addicted. :D

I have a 14k Rolex Date model that I inherited from my grandfather, according to the papers it's from Jun 1989. Overall it seems in ok shape, but the gold is tarnished and the crystal needs replacing. I brought it to a local AD on recommendation, and initial quote was $680 for servicing and cleaning. I was kind of in a rush, but the gentleman seemed knowledgeable and I don't have any doubts about their capability. Does this seem high, should I expect additional costs?

Now that I have the bug, looking to add a nice Air King or maybe an Explorer and slowly grow the collection. So many choices!

Looking forward to contributing and learning here.

Welcome aboard! I just moved from South Riding, VA up to MD, I really enjoyed Loudoun. Make sure you make it out to the next DC area GTG.

Welcome aboard JT3!

The charge seems right in the neighborhood of what the RSC charges. Prices have gone up and your watch may have needed additional work. Was the AD doing the work itself, outsourcing the work, or were they sending it to an RSC? Just curious, which AD did you take it to? You can PM me if you'd rather not mention it here.

Thanks all! I just bought my second watch, an Air King. I have always wanted this model.

I'll have to make it to the next G2G. :)
