NEVER say never

About 30-60 days ago, on a whim, I put myself on a waiting list for the new SS GMTII at a local large AD. No deposit, no commitment, no worries. Love my SS/PLT YM and have (edited to mean "had") no desire to flip. Just curious.

Phone rings this am (the 28th no less). 2 watches are in, first come first serve. I head down there (local South Florida AD) with no intention to buy, just look. 45 minutes later I'm leaving with a brand new SS GMTII!

This watch sold itself. It is the real deal and IMHO exemplifies the future of the Rolex sports line. Great weight and feel. Hugely improved clasp. Bracelet very solid (like the YM). The green paint and the ROLEXROLEXROLEX are very subtle. The watch case is rock solid and the bezel does not over-power the dial. As comfortable on the wrist as my YM. The reduced glare cyclops is fantastic.

Funny, I have never been a fan of the GMT line and have zero use for the multi time zone function. I just fell in love with the watch. Oh and by the way... the suggestion that the very slightly wider lugs dwarf the bracelet, well I just don't see it. It looks symetrical and proportional to the case. The watch looks better in person than in any picture I have seen.

I would never have bought this watch if it weren't everything I have described and more. Very cool timepiece. As you know by now, no hologram and the warranty is in credit card like form.

Look for a very pampered SS/PLT YM soon on the sales forum. I hope I can find it a good home.

Don't those two statements highly contradict one another?

advocatia i am exactly at your position. YM plat/ss and the new GMT are my 2 most favourite in rolex sports model.
i've had my YM for 3 months now and have no intention to flip but the GMT is seriously good looking especially after seeing it in person and trying it on at the melbourne's mini gathering.
congrats on the stunning watch! who knows if i may join gmt owner .....without flipping i hope.... i think i just love my YM too much

Yes. No doubt. But I am and always have been a one watch guy. Believe me it was a VERY tough choice. One I hope I wont regret as I have never re-bought a watch I have sold. I can't explain it other than I just fell in love with the GMTII.

You really have me thinking. I can afford to keep both but I kind of have an "out with the old, in with the new" nature. Oddly, I don't care for the choice of which one to wear and they are both basically sport watches. I may keep both. I have to think about it. I do really love the YM.

Keep both, at least for an extended period of time. That will give you a chance to see if you're a "two watch" guy.

Congrats on the new acquisition, Andy.....it's a superb and very futuristic timepiece from Rolex.

At the same time, I know how much you love that Pt. YM....so why get rid of it?

If finances are not an issue, I would stick with BOTH these Rollies - they are worlds apart in looks and functionality....so why not just hang onto both these beauties?

That way, you could give even wrist time to the two loves of your life!!

My sincere advice would be to wear them BOTH in good health!!

Cheers - JJ

IMHO, I think the supercase's wider lugs gives a more classic look. whereas the subs and dweller's narrow lugs gives a more contemporary look. Wonder if anyone shares my opinion?

Great watch. Yes the GMT II has to be seen in person to appreciate its finer points.......pictures do not do it justice.

Congrats !!

I would suggest to keep the YM.The time will come that you will want to wear it again.Guaranteed.Having more than one reliefs one of the boredom and the urge to change. One gets used to everything.Dont sell the YM,keep it !!!

When I bought my new TT Sub I swore I would sell my SS as I didn't need two similar watches. It's been 7 years and I haven't gotten around to selling it yet. Since I picked up a third, I guess I probably won't be selling any of them.

I'm going to agree with JJ. I'm sure there's no hurry. Think about it a while.....Put that YM back in the box, after a gentle cleaning, and place it in the safe.

Don't even think about it for a while....Then make up your mind if you intend to keep or sell.. I'm weak, I never sell....

Thank you all for the kind words and suggestions. My plan is to take my time on the YM sale decision. I would really hate to sell it then regret having done so. I will give it careful thought.

It may just be a strange aspect of my personality but, for example, when I go clothes shopping I have to clean the old stuff out of my closet. My garage is not cluttered with old junk like some peoples are stacked to the rafters. This my my 6th Rolex but I have never owned more than one at a time.

I am a Rolex enthusiast, not a collector. If I were going to a wedding or to play golf, I would feel comfortable wearing either the YM or GMT and not care. I KNOW they are techincally different, and visually different but to me it's just my everyday watch.

I will give it at least a few weeks with both and see how this old dog feels about maybe learning a new trick.

I think you're wise to so. However I feel your pain on the multiple watch thing. I had an old GMT for years and then gave it to my son and bought a z-series SS Sub. A short time later I saw a TT DJ and had to have it. For the life of me, I just can't get used to having two watches. I feel like I should wear the Sub daily as it's a "sports" watch, but the DJ sitting on the winder all the time bugs the H*** out of me. I envy these guys with a beautiful collection to choose from but it's too much decision for me! Good Luck!

Most certainly well intentioned. The thrill that Andy describes appears in part because he found a watch that bowled him over; love at first sight. Those of us that research a watch ad nauseum before purchase may be denying ourselves this excitement.
