It's an interesting phenomenon, and take this for the price you paid.........AD's, most notably in Asia but elsewhere also, have a very high demand for Rolex watches. And they want watches with certain "lucky" numbers. They also want the "freshest" watch possible since having the newest, and best, is a status thing.

In order to keep fresh stock coming in from Rolex, they dump their stock at minimal profit.....Gray market Dealers who can sell lot's of these have standing orders in for these excess inventory.

Also, any slow movers due to poor numerology are in the dump as well. And, of course, there are AD's who just want to turn over their stock to keep in good with Rolex corporate.

So, stock is constantly moving...think of it as "trickle down effect". And, yes..most reputable Gray Dealers sell BNIB.

By "numbers" do you mean the serial numbers?

Hmmm, maybe I should have checked mine before I bought it.

Er, I know 7 is supposed to be a lucky number and 13 is thought to be unlucky. Any other numbers I should look for?

Yes, serial numbers....Did you know that 6's in some eastern cultures are lucky, so 666 would be a very lucky number, whereas, in western culture that might be the "sign of the beast"

However, 8 means "to make fortune" and 4 may mean death....etc.

yep, 8 in Chinese customs is lucky while 4 is unlucky. Its how it is pronounced in Chinese as it sounds similar to words like good fortune and death. I myself being Chinese in origin do not believe in those.

I've got a Z******.

Only one 7, one 6 and no 8s. Dang it.

Still, I'm feeling pretty lucky. After all, there's a nice ring to it if you follow the bouncing ball:

*+*=* and *x*=*. *-*=*. So if you take the 6 in the serial number together with the (*x*) 6 and the (*-*) 6, you've got Z666 as in zis is ze Sea-Dweller 666!

Have I hit the Chinese jackpot?

Ok, I realize this post no longer makes any sense, but I've been advised not to post my serial number. Can't do much about the quote below, though.

You've almost got it, actually!
My understanding is that all the numbers are just added together repeatedly until you get down to one digit, so the serial number for your watch (which I would avoid posting, BTW, as legit serials are targets for forgers) adds up to two. Am I right? Anyone know what this would mean in Chinese numerology?

one of my ADs told me that they export slow-moving models.........in order to make the batch more palatable, they include a few popular watches......

that's one way how these BNIB watches appear in the market....:)

Alan Furman always seems to have Daytonas and LV's. How does that work into the model described? Do Japanese buyers pass on a SS Daytona because of a serial # they don't care for??? Larry

Most probable, a Rolex with ref. # like 16600 and a serial number like Z666XXX could fetch a nice premium in China.
