Just a thought

Do you think that Rolex SA have people searching the Internet for places like ours? To get a notion as to what the opinions and critique of real Rolex buffs are? I’m almost sure they scourer the Internet for fakes so that they may undertake legal action against infringements of their copyright. But I always flatter myself with the thought that someone from Rolex reads posts like ours and makes notes. (Nah, too obscure).

If anything, Rolex should welcome forums like these. Knowledgeable and experienced Rolex owners. We hate and loath fakes and spend large amounts of our hard earned money on their products. Voluntarily! What more could a manufacturer want? It is sheer bliss to them.

So, Rolex guy, if you are reading this: how about a gesture to all of these great guys here? I’m not asking for a special TRF edition (individually numbered of course) of a 16610 (although this would be nice), but a nice A4 catalogue for all of us would be great. (Signed by the Rolex management).

Take care,

Frans.

I think so, for example ppl have been saying for years that the hour markers should be larger (now we are getting the maxi dials phase in to all sports models slowly: the Green sub, new daytonas and the anniversary GMT2 have them)) ppl have also said that sports models with crown guards should have the big trip lock crowns (its starting withe GMT2 anniversary and I beleive we will see them on all models sooner or later)

They may lurk, but they don't change anything fast.

Seems pretty unlikely. Rolex has made it more and more clear in the past few years that they care not one bit about "enthusiasts". Witness the difficulty (read: impossibility) of touring the Rolex facilities, the increasing reluctance of Rolex to cater to vintage watches at their service centers, the apalling ignorance of their sales force, the hideous watches they release when they bother to release anything new at all (Leopard Daytona? Subs and GMT's with GREEN in them? ick) etc.

Rolex caters to only ONE group: People with cash in their pockets who "want the best watch money can buy".

The enthusiast crowd leans strongly towards vintage watches, even if they started out as "NIB only" buyers (like me). Rolex must be well aware that catering to enthusiasts is a game of diminishing returns, not to mention a customer service nightmare when people come along to the dealers with their microscopes and complicated questions.

Rolex probably reads these forums... for comic relief and not much else. We (the enthusiasts) surely comprise less than 1% of their sales, significantly less. Why they would cater to that utter fringe of consumers I can't imagine.

I don't think they care at all. And besides, they are all too busy taking a year to make each watch........

Micah hit it spot on. Sure Rolex does market research. But we are not the market they are researching. As Micah said, we represent less than 1% of the Rolex buying public - no one is going to stay in business long going after that market.

So why are they successful? Because they make a damned good product. We all know that and appreciate it. Why else would we buy the brand and be so loyal to it? And in the high end watch market, their prices are not out of line with AP, PP, GP, etc.

Now if we can get, say, 80% of the high end watch buying public to join TRF, then you'll see how Rolex will pay attention to us.

But when TRF has a few hundred members, and even the biggest fora only have a few thousand members (of which maybe a couple hundred are active) and there are a few million potential Rolex buyers out there, you need counseling to think Rolex (or any other brand) will pay attention to us.

It's a fact of life, people.

I agree with the first sentance, but I think they're too busy counting all our money.
