altered warranty card

a quick question.

I seem to remember that there was a forum topic here, back in i believe was March, April or May, where it was discussed that when the warranty card is altered in any way, like let say scratching off the name on the card or using a marker to cover the name of the purchaser actually voids the warranty.

I remember reading that there was a member who is a doctor who purchased a Sub LV, the watch had problems and it was taken to NYC RSC where they denied warranty claim because the name was blacked out.

anyone can help find that thread for me? I used the search feature but cant locate it.

Or perhaps the OP of that thread can see this and respond?

Thanks Guys

Yes that is true.
RSCNY was about to deny me service for the exact reason.
Fortunately there was just a piece of white tape over the original name that I was able to peel off, it left no residue and warranty service was honored.
Good luck.

Not that I recall, I think I would have remembered that much school

But coincidentally it was an LV.

Was it your name under the white tape or someone else's?

John - because they're talking pre-owned Rolexes that have changed hands, and then had an altered card, it would have been someone else's name.

I almost purchased a watch that had a warranty card, someone had blanked out the signed name with white ink, which I was able to identify. The store try to convince me that it was a blank warranty card. I never went back to that store again...

As far as I know, with Rolex USA:

- The warranty must be stamped by an AD
- It must be named and dated
- It does not matter whose name is on the card. As long as the watch is within the validity period, the warranty will be honored
- If the card is tampered with in any way, the warranty is void.

Key words: "As far as I know" :)

Question. If the warranty card is lost, RSC will not service? (Within warranty period I mean)

I would imagine that a lot of warranty cards are misplaced or lost.
Rolex would have the date of sale by the AD and honour the warranty IMO.
