What's wrong with this 5512..
Looking at some 5512's. Besides perhaps a tad "rich" what do you think...too much "rebuilding" and "beautification"? Also...looks to be short a few links? I know others have had challenges with these guys not "telling" everything about their watches? This has all the desirable attributes of the quintessential 5512 wouldn't you say? Why would you buy from someone who's "not telling everything about the watch"? I buy from my dealer and he tells me first and foremost all the flaws, before the good things

The case back says II.67 and 5513....doesn't match the dial which is 5512....

hehe...agreed thanks. The council has spoke! Yeah i'll keep my eyes open for a 5512 on TRF. @JohnBaker3 i noted that too.

Yes, have seen a number of legit 5512s marked 5513 inside the caseback. It seems Rolex used these casebacks interchangeably for the 5512. Things were more relaxed in the sixties and seventies, probably due to all those funny cigarettes...
 However, I've never seen a 5513 with a 5512 caseback. |

Way too much going on here replacement dial ( stated in service records/ not a bad thing ) serial number on case puts watch in 4th quarter of 67 case back sez 2nd quarter, band from 1984, 1560 movement? if a 5512 s/b 1570, could be wrong but don't see many 1560 movements passed 1965-66 (1560 18000vph/ 1570 19800vph) Things like a Cuban c

A Rolex serviced 5512 in what looks to be fairly good condition to my eye. Not sure how much cheaper you're hoping to get one...
Regarding the seller I have no idea, but the name of the shop on the service papers is world renown (and definitely worth a visit). Anyway good luck on your search. |

can it be too clean or polished?
Viknijjar....it is clean (well it's been cleaned...replaced, tightened up, and polished)...but unless i'm mistaken doing all that "beautification" takes away from the authenticy and in the end value? Isn't that true? And from what others have said there is a lot of mismatch.
Dont get me wrong i'm not looking for a piece dusted off and pulled out of the safe complete with hanging tags still attached from 1969....but i do want a piece i'll wear often and ultimately gain value over time while I enjoy it. Either way...it is the 5512 i'll have to have!
