So I didn't have readers with me and I'm getting up there, at least I could tell it was an Explorer... Here's a photo:
So what exactly is this??

Sort of a 1016 with a bad relume job. Squiggly squiggly.

Experts can correct me, but I would say that this is a 1962 1016 Explorer with a gilt exclamation mark dial - very rare and very desirable. If the price is under $6K buy it. If under $8K - consider buying it. More info on the 'dot': http://rolexpassionreport.com/316/th...ing-radiation/

i love the early explorer - i just think they all look really weird when you blow up the photo to 6 or 7 times the actual size.
i suppose u just need similar models for comparison - shouldn't be too difficult to find... seem to run in the price range mentioned earlier |

Thank you both. And I used to known for my macros, it's much easier to pick out a fake or a re-lume or possibly identify a rare dial.
Again I know subs fairly well, just wanted an opinion or two from TRF about this Explorer. I got quite a lot of TRF input before I bought my Red Sub
