Is the General Discussion Forum a slightly different breed?

It's probably me.
I just got a dose of their missing the point of a cheeky, sarcastic, meant-to-be all in fun post I put up. Granted, it was probably too obscure and close to home for some, but after seeing posts like "Show your college diploma and your Rolex" (!?) I couldn't help myself.

I dunno...I prefer vintage watches, and am probably not your prototypical "new" Rolex wearer (I'm the same with vintage guitars vs. new ones). It's absolutely no disrespect whatsoever to owners of new Rolexes, I just have trouble relating.

OK, reflection over!! Apologies!

Lol, saw your thread, was funny. I guess if you asked the same question to the vintage folks amongst us we would be more cautious about running tap water on our watches without first having a waterproofing test and service done.

Edit: thought your post was of the guy who ran tap water on his watch and asked if it was safe. Saw yours is a different one.:), funny nevertheless!

I wouldn't take it personally, stuff even more obscure than matchbooks gets put up next to watches in complete seriousness. You have to get a lot more petty than matchbooks for it to be seen as sarcasm.

Most of us were in on the gag with you. You may have misinterpreted some of the equally dry replies.

But to answer your question - yes, all of us here are a slightly different breed.

Yes, I understand that they were cheeky, but my point was that some were completely missing that it was a commentary on how ridiculous the "Show us your..." posts get on that forum. My main point being (as far as differences go) you don't see a lot of "Show us your rolex with your car" posts on the Vintage side....which I fully appreciate. Here, it's all about the watch and the intricacies of the these lovely vintage pieces, rather than watches-as-status-symbols.

Alas....it was also a bad day yesterday. And apologies if my sensitivity perhaps got the best of me. That all said, i probably won't be posting any pics of my Sub in front of my Lamborghini Murcielago...that I don't actually own

If it is a a proper vintage car, I think I would not mind - even on this forum. ;-)

Don't worry. All good fun. :-D

It was fine; I guess it wasn't a side splitter but it wasn't particularly offensive either. So much inane stuff on this forum it kind of blends into the back ground noise of meaninglessness and purposelessness.

I was encouraged

I thought that it would finally inspire someone to open up a photo thread entitled "show your vintage Submariner with a diving flashlight from the same year"

I could have entered the 1967 submission.

Maybe someday my dreams will come true.
