Refurbished/Reconditioned Rolexes?
Next week, the local AD is having a once a year/one-day sale of "reconditioned" and "refurbished" Rolexes and other Swiss watches. Discounts of up to 40%, it claims. The watches come with a "one-year limited warranty," from the AD.
On the one hand, I've had some experience with refurbished cameras and computers, none of it good. On the other hand, would an AD for a once a year sale sell a turkey, at the risk of its reputation? Anyone had experience with refurbished/reconditioned (I wonder what the difference is?) Rolexes? Is this something that I might be interested in, or something I should stay very far away from? |

I don't think my Rolex AD has a second hand dealers licence.

I buy 2nd hand all the time and Rolexes are a safer bet especially if they had been recently service by RSC. Condition would be like new.
Most likely your AD has a trade-in program. They get used Rollies, have them serviced. One thing to consider is who did the fefurb. If it's Rolex Service Center, no problem. But if it's just the AD, I'd stay away from it.

Yes, if serviced by RSC then fine. Otherwise, you need to know how to spot an overpolished case at least.

As long as they have the service records and the two year Waranty card from Rolex
Then I would feel better if the AD did the service then no Now that I'm thinking about it your post did state one year limited Waranty and an RSC serviced watch would carry a two year Waranty so I'd pass

Ben Bridge has an annual traveling sale of their overhauled trade-ins. They are all usually serviced at their Rolex Approved Service Center outside of Seattle and if you ask you can likely get a 2 year in-house warranty.
Only you can decide if the prices are what you want to pay. 40% off of retail isn't always a good price unless it's a piece that you really want.. I have had a couple of watches from their sales over the years, but you need to get their early to be able to find the best bargains or selection..

Well, actually, it is Ben Bridge I'm asking about. I didn't know if it was appropriate to use their name here.

You might also consider our trusted sellers here. Best prices possible and no hassle of a sales pitch.

As long as it's serviced by RSC it's good. Make sure you get the box and paperwork too. There are some ADs that don't have it because the precious owner didn't have it. I would stay away from those because should you trade your refurb in it may not have as much value as compared to the same model with the box and paperwork.

I suspect you will see a lot of datejusts, dates and Air Kings with wacky dials.
But what the heck...get there when they open and check it out. Perhaps they may have something you actually want. |

Refurbished by whom, where and when would be the operative question.

The jewelry stores in my neck of the woods are always running sales like that. The "40-50% off" they advertise is very misleading as it's actually 40% off of the current MSRP for the comparable new model. If the watches have been serviced by a rolex approved watchmaker with warranty, there is some value there. Similar service would cost approx $600 if you were to commission it yourself. Doesn't hurt to look but I doubt the deals will better those in our own classifieds section, even factoring in the possible need for service.
