Question about my new 1680

First off I would like to thank you all for giving me the vintage bug. Here are some pics of my new but also old 1680. This is my first post but I have been a forum member for quite some time and have really enjoyed admiring and learning from the pictures and information posted in the vintage forum.
I've been looking for a couple of years for a White 1680 with a crisp case and just purchased this one. It's missing loom on half of the one hour marker and has an after market crystal but I'm going to put in a proper crystal when I service it. From what I can tell its a mark 1 and the serial number (6,1xx,xxx) puts it around 79, I'm i right about that. Also I can see a little rust in a few spots around the dial (there is one spot visible in the second picture above the 12 o'clock marker) is this a problem? Can/should it be removed. If it's not distracting can it be left alone? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Welcome to the Forum. Quite a grand entrance I might add. Very nice example. If and when you chose to get it serviced you will find several highly recommended independent watchmakers with a Rolex parts accounts here on the Forum (Bob Ridley, ABC and others) that will protect the overall "vintage integrity" of your watch while doing any necessary movement overhaul work. Getting the correct NOS acrylic crystal should not be a problem.

In the meantime, you could try to polish out the scratches on the cyclops and try to locate an nice tritium pearl to make it even more awesome!

Welcome and that is indeed a great way to start your collection! Beautiful watch. The half lume issue would personally bother me, I have to admit, but it is totally up to you and how you feel. If you decide to address that or any of the other points (which frankly I think are not worth addressing at this point), I agree with the previous advice, go to one of the specialists who will make sure as to preserve the vintage feel.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. Would the rolex service in SF Ca. Also be an ok place to get a service done? I had heard some good things here about them and they have serviced my gmt 16700. Or should I definitely use Bob Ridley, or ABC?
