I damaged the bezel on my DSSD
I managed to take a small nick/chunk out of my DSSD bezel on a door strike plate (I think) ... the worst of the damage is between the 37 and 38 minute markers.
It's aggravating me a little bit so I brought it to the RSC in NYC thinking they could just replace the metal part of the bezel because the ceramic is still completely fine. Unfortunately, I was told the exact opposite. They can replace the ceramic without replacing the metal but not the other way around. In my case they would have to replace both. They quoted me $825. Thoughts? |

If it is your everyday watch, then I am not sure if that bothers me $825 worth.

For $825 I'd take a pass and leave it as is and just continue enjoy wearing it. If it was a broken ceramic insert, then I would replace it.

Doesn't look horrible..but if it bothers you 825 isn't as much as I thought it would cost.

I think it adds character. I would just keep it that way and maybe at the next normal service think about replacing it if it really gnawed at me. You also have to keep in mind that you could drop $800 to fix it and knock it again a day later.

Here's a thought as they are quoting for bezel inc insert and I guess they will keep your insert why don't you remove your current bezel and sell it!
Might not shift like the Sub insert would but I bet you'll find a buyer at some point and these ceramics tend to go for good money. |

I would replace it. I tolerate scratches and swirls on the bracelet much better than the case, bezel or sapphire.

I think only you can really answer this. I suspect the consensus on here will be to just accept it and move on, and clearly that's the best option... IF it works for you. However, if everytime you look at the watch that bothers you then I think the $825 is totally worth it...

Learn to like it. Replace it and you will almost definitely do it again someday. Character marks from real wear...

Are you handy?
I bet if you clean it up a bit with a Dremel polishing wheel it will be barely noticeable. Or you could have a jeweler do a light polish just in that area...

If I were I will just leave it. Yes it is disturbing in the beginning, but after a while it won't bother you especially when you hit it again within a few weeks/months. Than you only would think luckily I haven't replace anything.

I'd wait to see if it bothers me after a bit of time. In 90 days, it might be a non-issue.

I can't believe that nobody's upset that Rolex won't replace the bezel and leave the insert. Why can't they replace the bezel? They are two separate pieces.

Two months from now it may not bother you, take the view that you at least have the option to replace it, don't be too hasty You never know you could have it repaired tomorrow and chances are you will put another ding in it the day after.
