First AP: Royal Oak or RO Chrono?
I am thinking about picking up my first AP. I have long been a Panerai Collector and am thinking about venturing into the world of AP. I thought I wanted a ROO at first, but after looking at a bunch, I have decided that I like the clean lines of the normal Royal Oak or RO chrono. I understand that the Chrono does not have an in house movement, and I can live with that since I am used to the Older Panerai's having the same thing. I am a bit torn between the 41mm black dial Royal Oak and the same black dial Chrono. Any opinions or suggestions? Thanks in Advance.

I went for the chrono, I liked the subdials filling up the rather large dial on the 41mm.

I like the dial of the chrono. Congrats on heading into the AP world--you're going to love them.

My personal take is for SS, I prefer the 15400. RG I prefer the ROC.

Hmm both winners. I think if I ventured back into royal oak it would be a 15202. The 15400 case seems a touch large and I'm thinking it would suit the chrono best.

The 15400 is a great piece. Better to put the extra cash to one side for the day that you want a ROO as well (which is what happened to me....during the process of purchasing my 15400 I totally surprised myself by falling for the Diver, and ended up with both.

I would go with the RO instead of the Chrono. Initially I prefered Chronos but over this addiction I've started preferring non Chrono dials. I also don't like the screw down pushers on them. I've kept two of my chronographs, a RG Breitling Transocean and a squadron specialized Fortis.

I just made the move from largely Panerai to my first AP, and you will love it. The execution of the finish is amazing. I went a different direction choosing the diver, and couldn't be more pleased. You will appreciate the wrist presence coming from PAM. Enjoy the hunt for the right one.

diver
I had not considered the diver. I wanted something that I can dress up a bit I suppose but really anything goes these days.

I would choose the ROC. It's a personal choice, obviously, and I think the subdials and the extra buttons give the watch a sporty look that I always look for.
If you choose the Diver, you can "dress it up" a bit with the bracelet as an option. See below: Sam |

Is it that big of a deal the chrono doesn't have an in house movement? I am maybe leaning towards sportier look vs regular ROO

So I guess the next important question is black or white dial?

If I could do it all over again I would have gone with the Chrono.
