Is this 2531.80 real?

Hey all,

This will be my first luxury watch (other than my grandfather's Rolex which goes out to Vanessa tomorrow for restoration! So excited!) and I've always wanted a 2531.80.

Just wanted to run it by you experienced guys/gals to tell me if it is okay, since I am buying from a private seller that I will not meet in person.

So, couple quick questions.

1. Does this appear real?
2. What would a fair price be to you guys for a 2531.80 in this condition?
3. How much does it typically cost to service a watch like this, and how often does it needed!

Thank you all so much!

Looks real to me, cost I have no idea, and servicing, it's a Quartz watch so you just need to throw a new battery in it from time to time, I have that exact one but tritium dial and I love it, I wear it pretty much all the time it's the most comfortable watch I've worn in my opinion!

Looks real. 1.5k is a fair price. Service around 300 bucks every 5 years.

This is the automatic version not the Quartz. The Quartz is the 2541.80. $1300-$1400 in this condition wouldn't be bad. Looks legit to me. If there is no service history I wouldn't pay much more than the price above. A full service would probably be in the $400-$500 range. Basic cleaning will be cheaper. Omega service prices are listed on their website if you go that route. Govberg and Koosh Jewelers have authorize Omega services and will normally get the watch back to you within a couple of weeks.

It's not a quartz - the 2541 was the quartz model, and the 2531 was the automatic edition. It's a calibre 1120, which according to the Omega website will cost $525 for a complete maintenance service, including any work required on the bracelet. The movement was put out to pasture about five or six years ago, in favor of the co-axial calibre 2500. If it hasn't had a service since it was originally sold as new, you might be well advised to include the service price in the initial cost of the watch.

And I agree that $1500 is a fair price for this piece in the condition this one appears to be in ... So think $2k including service and you've got a great watch on your wrist. Now it's time to polish up your Pierce Brosnan imitation ;)

That is indeed the Chronometer 1120 automatic version. 1.5K is a good price--figure spending another $525-600 in maintenance costs if you send it to Omega. I agree with the others: If you don't know the service history, it would be a good idea to send it in for service. Omega service for recent movements (1120 included) starts at $525. Should take 6-8 weeks.

One thing that was mentioned to me by someone else was the corrosion on the hour hand. I don't think it will cost much to replace the hands, but does this mean there is moisture in the watch and that it is likely there is other unseen corrosion?

Thanks

I procrastinated too long and it's sold now anyway. I'll have to try to find a 2531.80 or 2220.80 elsewhere :-(.

Maybe I can find one from an authorized dealer...

Thanks all

Keep looking - this is well worth the effort!

You also might consider looking for a newer Seamaster Diver ... You can probably find the current version for only a few hundred dollars more, with the co-axial 2500D and "low miles", as it were ... Keep us posted!

The 2220.80 you mean? Yeah I'd jump on one of them also.

One thing to keep in mind when buying used Omegas... make sure you see a serial number on the back bottom case. In the past, some gray market sellers would grind off that serial number. (on the inside as well.) Found this out the hard way but got my money back thought EBay. Omega will not service without a serial number.

Looks like the hour hand might be rubbing on the dial as well?

I know this already passed you by, but it looked to me that the little red seal marker that is supposed to be on the case back was gone. This shows that someone opened the case back and that would be a problem.

Shocking:-)
If someone regulate the watch it must be opened not really a problem what you describe.
