My First Omega - Decided on the SM 300M

I have been swamped with work and haven't been on the forum as much lately, but thought I'd share an incoming that I'm totally excited about. I've been missing a sports watch since letting go of my SD4K and 16610LV Kermit, and so have started to look for something I can wear with minimal worries.

I debated on picking up a no date SubC or maybe the new Black Bay Black, but then came across this SM 300M Master Co-Axial. Completely fell in love with the vintage styling and paired with the very nicely finished Co-Axial 8400 movement. Fits well on the wrist and even comes with a bracelet adjustment that is comparable to Glidelock (I've been spoiled by glidelock and I don't think I can ever own another bracelet watch without an adjustment function).

Overall I was really impressed and couldn't resist bringing it home. This is actually my first Omega as well and couldn't be happy I picked this. I always thought my first Omega would be a Speedy Pro but I think for a sports watch the dive watch speaks to me most.

Here are some pics of my latest

Im in the market for a new watch and sure do like the vintage sports models , the omega and the black bay are the ones I'm leaning to ,easy to read uncluttered and classic and the size is bang on. Whats the lume like please ?

Great choice. I think these are way underrated in general.

Looks great James, how's the thickness of the 8400 movement?

Case is 15mm but wears pretty well and doesn't feel like a 15mm tall watch.

Very nice watch. I have a friend who owns it and switches between the metal band and a OEM tan leather strap.

I'm in the process of looking for a leather strap to change up the look. OEM strap is quite pricey though but the 21mm lugs really make aftermarket options much more limited. If I can change one thing about this watch it would be to make the lug size 20mm.

Just about all 22mm leather straps will work fine. The material will compress enough to fit within 21mm. At least all the ones I've tried on my 300mc.

Try Bas & Lokes. They do nearly all their straps in 21mm.

Forgot to add this to my earlier post, but if you're looking for a leather strap, I highly recommend the Omega leather NATO. It's one of, if not the most comfortable leather strap I've owned. It's pricey ($250+), but isn't nearly as expensive as the OEM leather strap and deployant clasp.

Is the leather NTO any thicker than the nylon one?

Yes it is a little, or sits bigger on the watch anyway. I had a look at it and the leather backed black nylon too. Thought them a bit bulky looking on the wrist but each to his own there.

Is the leather Omega Nato 20mm or 21mm width?
