Journe : Soverain versus Bleu

I have an itch for a new watch and never considered Journe (was thinking of ALS) until I saw FPJ at a dealer and just loved the idea of small numbers, fantastic movements and quirky dials. I have slimmed my watches down quite a bit and trying to have a little bit of everything:

Annual Calendar - PP 5146
World Time - PP 5130
Water and weekends - Rolex 116655
Pilot / GMT - PP 5524 delivery in Feb

I don't like chrono's and just sold my Daytona. So I was thinking along the lines of a simple dress watch love the idea of a manual wind and hence the selection of the above 2.

I have worn the Souverain Chronometre and thought it was fantastic. The hands take a while to get used to but at th end of the day its simple and does what it says on the box. But I guess a calatrava does the same and teh comfort of a well know brand.

The blea intrigues me as I love the dial. The entry point for me is about $ 3000 less than the Souverain so not much of a muchness. The absence of a power reserve worries me as I really dont want to over wind this watch. No idea how long a service will take...and with over 50 hours its not as though you can do it every day and it takes 38 winds...so that is a big detraction for me.

Any thoughts form owners and their experiences and what made them choose?

Great poll. I'm anxious to see how this thread plays out and which one you'll choose. I haven't voted because I'm considering the same FPJ references you are. I am, however, leaning towards the CB because of both its classic simplicity and its tantalum case.

If you haven't seen it, here is a great review of the CB:

https://monochrome-watches.com/fp-jo...-photos-price/

As for the lack of a power reserve on the CB, I would think a 1/2 full wind every day or so would do the trick. It would just be a matter of determining the number of winds that would be. I'm sure some owners could weigh in with some tips.

Great collection, btw. I've also considered a 116655 and a PP 5167, but I think the next one is going to be an FPJ.

Yes saw this review and half the reason why I am swaying between the two. My AD will get the CB in 3 weeks and then I guess once they are both on my wrist its crunch time!!

I voted bleu, but I'm biased since I own one. I'm curious about your concern over winding...once it gets close to fully wound it tightens, and then stops. Aside from forcing it beyond the point where it stops, I'm not sure there's much risk in winding it daily.

That's a good bit of advice. Appreciated.

In that case the CB. It's as good as advertised.

If the CS in question is the old one (pictured above), then my vote goes to the CB. If it is the new CS with gold grained dial, I'd vote CS.

I like the original CS in platinum. The white guilloche dial and the platinum case goes well together. I also like the 38mm version better since the bezel is thinner.

Between your choices, I vote for the CS. Personally, I think I would get bored of the blue dial.

Yes and the weight of platinum is a bonus but a bit more expensive and this not fair to compare to CB. The only misgiving I have on the blue is that my 5130 /5524 lean towards blue and I don't have. RG dress watch. But I would love platinum including in the Octa range

Funny, I have had similar dilemmas...I've wanted a rose gold dress watch, but keep falling in love with pieces that have blue dials (currently have the fpj chronometre bleu, a 5711 with blue dial, and a 5110p). I really like all of them though, so it's tough to bounce any of them for more diversity in my collection

I am in the "same boat", but still need to see a Bleu in the flesh.
CS in Pt is indeed nice, with a nice contrast between the blue hands against the white dial, but much dressier, which may be too much for my lifestyle.
As stated above, I would certainly not worry about over winding the Bleu.
Keep us posted...

Both look great, I love the case and lugshapes of Journe's watches. But a gold case with a guilloche dial and PR indicator is a bit nicer IMO.

RG CS with the new gold dial is the culmination of Mr. Journe's vision of creating an entirely gold watch; case, movement and dial. I don't argue with the master when he does his thing.

Oh well the RG has been sold whilst I was vacillating so this is largely academic now. However the CB got 60% of the votes!!
