Finally have a reason to register

Hi, my name is Robin and I'm a watch addict.

Isn't that the sort of thing you're supposed to start with

Seriously, I've had a thing for watches since before my teens, but never bought myself a Rolex till very recently. I've had a Tudor Monarch II and a Princedate, and my wife has a 6517 and a Princess Date, but I've always hesitated at the idea of spending the cost of a decent holiday on a watch for myself. Strange as I don't mind paying high prices for ones for her indoors (both the 6517 and the Princess were presents from me, plus a brand new Rado a couple of Christmases back).

I guess the trigger was taking my wife into a watch shop in Lisbon at Christmas and offering to buy her a very nice 18ct Datejust with a burl dial for her birthday and having her say she'd rather have the pashmina she'd seen down the road for €5! Maybe I'm spending too much on her and not enough on myself I thought!

My own watches-wise I've just taken delivery of a birth year 1603, to add to my Omega De Ville and various other cheaper watches. My day-to-day choice is either custom Vostok Amphibia or an Apeks 1000m Pro dive watch. Add a few other bits and pieces that I buy and sell depending on my mood at the time, plus a Bucherer chronometer I'm in the process of rebuilding as I can find the parts, that's it for now.

My past watches have included the 2 Tudors mentioned above, a Pre-Bond Seamaster that I sold because the bracelet was too tight and new links cost a fortune (then saw a non-working one I could have salvaged links from going cheap on ebay a few days later), a nice Tissot that looked great but just didn't sit right on my wrist, another De Ville which being gold plated was too blingy for my taste once I'd bought it, a number of Seikos and Breitlings (all older quartz models and mostly military ones) and the one I really wish I knew what I'd done with, a Swatch GB101 bought when they first started importing Swatch into the UK.

Anyway, that's me and I'm looking forward to my time here.

Robin
