Let's talk Yard-O-Led!

So...sheesh!!!

Some of the most lovely pens I have ever purchased are Yard O Led examples. Not to mention they are all 100% sterling and hallmarked beautifully!

I absolutely love their Corinthian models and their Barleys are also fantastic.

If you have some YOLs please post a photo or two. They are EXPENSIVE and worth every single last cent in my never to be humble opinion!

Here are a couple of mine: Not my photos, but I have owned them and do.

YOL Barley! This is a nice FP.... very nice!

This is one of the best if not the best BP I currently own (photo is pencil.. BP looks exactly the same). Perfect balance and flawless craftsmanship.

And this one is the firs YOL I ever purchased. A hex pencil and still functions perfectly after 70 years.

Well, gee, like I really need something else to spend money on.

But, the Barley pencil really interests me. Does it feel slick in the hand, though? I like a nice grip.

Leo,

Just look at the quality and craftsmanship. Even just a photo or two makes me drool.

Like I said, I have several of them, but would love to own them all!!!

So little time, so many YOLs, so much $$$$$$$$$$.!!!!

Richard, as always you're correct in your observations…..I too enjoy looking at pictures of each other's pens and think about how much fun it would be to use each and every one…..

And of course all the brands and colors of ink(pigments)for fountain pens just adds to the enjoyment and fun of writing and journaling…..

And quality always trumps quantity!!!

This has been a costly thread to open.

post thread opening (5 minutes ago) this is incoming.

I know it's a ballpoint and may be perceived in pen world like I perceive Quartz watches but my handwriting is beyond atrocious and my brief & youthful experience with fountain pens was quite messy.

Looking forward to arrival.

I love my Pocket YOL Barley!!!

This pen lays down a very wet medium line.

I am going to have the nib mastered to a fine italic. After that ..... It will remain in my daily rotation.

John,

I love all of the YOL FPs, but here is the deal.

Make sure you test them. Many of them will state they have a medium or fine nib and write like a BROAD.

It is not that there is any real problem, but I think that YOL pens made in the UK don't really adhere to the same standards of line width that other pen makers do. I have a rule of thumb with YOL FPs. I just purchase the FP I like and then have it tended to by one of my nibmeisters. Sherill Tyree is my favorite and lives locally.

Either way, they are a world class writing instrument that will last generations and give you a LOT of writing pleasure. Hand made down to the nib engraving and of course you have to love the hallmarks. EXQUISITE!!!

I love the Pocket Barley, but truthfully any of them are first class. The Corinthian and the Regent are also lovely. You might want to look at the Espirit. They are a different kind of pen for YOL and a departure of the traditional sterling pen for them. But honestly you can't go wrong with any of them in my never to be humble opinion.

Please let us know what you acquire if any. Good luck!

So it turns out that they decided to quit keeping them in stock at the end of 2015 due to the way yard-o-led treated a few customers on warranty issues. They are going to get me some pricing and email me. I will be back up there Thursday so I will most likely order something then, given the prices are reasonable. Kinda sucks that they didn't have anything for me to handle and play with.

So my guy was able to order directly from yard-o-led and got with me today on prices. I ordered a diplomat barley pencil and a viceroy pocket barley ballpoint. If I like what I see and get I will move on to the viceroy grand Victorian rollerball and fountain.

Congratulations! I don't think you will be unhappy in any regard!

Been using the pen daily, feel like it is the perfect choice for me...so much so that I had to expand on the choice with this pocket version.

Didn't realize but it is just a bit thicker and feels fantastic in the hand, also the mechanism is a bit more precise.

I really like the feel of the pocket versions of YOL pens. Something about the looks of them appeal to me more than then regular version also. Wish that YOL would make a pocket version of all of their pens, but that is not practical of course.

Congratulation on the great acquisitions!

The pockets look way to small?? I'm looking at 4.25 inches on my ruler and it looks comical!
Tell me I'm wrong as I love the girth and look of the pocket version..

They are a bit small, but actually perfect in size for a pocket pen / pencil. They are sterling and therefore heavy. This size fits comfortably in the pocket.

In truth they are really not that small.

I'm not Richard but here you go. I love it as it fits great in shallow shirt pockets. Weighs as much as my MB 164.
