Greetings all!

Long time reader, first time poster(finally registered). I just picked up a white-faced Milgauss unexpectedly, which I have completely fallen for. That said, there is a *significant* amount of scratch-free perfectly polished stainless on this model. I have always been very cautious (pronounced a n a l ;) ) while wearing my timepieces, and enjoyed very little visual wear for my efforts.

I do realize that scratches are part of wearing a watch, but do the gurus here have a source of jewelers rouge(or other option) that could help keep it looking as new as possible?!?!? I have a Pepsi GMT Master II which is in great shape for being nearly 3 years old, but even it could use a touch up or two on the sides.

Thanks in advance, and I look forward to learning more about these fines timepieces, as well as contributing where I can.

Welcome Brian.

Some folks have good lluck with some of the jewelers polishing clothes such as Cape Cod, Sunchine, etc. You need to tape off the brushed areas or they will be shiney too.

Polishing compounds are good, but they tend to get into the parts and pieces..

Thanks for the welcome.. Where would a person find the aforementioned polishing cloths?!?!? I also forgot to pose another question: Given the Milgauss' highly polished bezel, that is likely going to take a beating. I've read that you can actually get some sort of a bezel protector, is this accurate? Do they work? How do they look? Thanks in advance!

I will try to get some pics up of the Milgauss. I tell you, I really liked the black face until I saw the white... Really gives it a clean look, IMHO.

THanks for the link. In reading the description, that seems like it's a cleaner, rather than a polishing cloth. Do you need to use a rouge in conjunction with the cloth, or does it remove fine scratches on it's own?!?!

welcome to the madness and never ending scratches, i'm very cautious and still get wear marks, try to enjoy your watch without being a slave to it, it took me 22 years to not be heartbroken about marks!

Use it without anything else. It's about as mild as you can get and does a good job on fine scratches. But, the scratches are still there. Remember, every time you remove a scratch with a polishing compound you are removing metal. My advise is to learn to live with the minor scratches, use the cloth to bring back the luster, and wait for your regular service to have the Rolex Service Center polish it up like new for you. Don't sweat the small stuff an life is so much easier to deal with.

I've used 'Blue Magic' metal polish cream with a Q-Tip to carefully remove small scratches, and it works well. I had a small scratch on the smooth bezel of my Explorer 1, and this method made it just like new !

You may want to think about doing this but i have had great luck with my dremel and a little polishing compound. The scratches come right out.

The watch is stainless steel and is very durable. I cant see how a soft polishing head could do anything harmful to this heavy bracelet.

The dremel is $34 at walmart and comes with everything.

You can practice with this tool on an old ring or a sterling silver fork, etc if you are skiddish abt using it as a novice on the Rollie band.

I ve been successful and yes it scratches very easily, esp the clasp. I would never use this on my YG watch tho,, gold isnt stainless steel.

As far as scratches go, both my watches have them. What that means is that they were worn for a reason. Come to think of it, all my watches have scratches. To each their own.

IMO scratches are part of everyday wear and I would not bother about them but each to their own. When you send it in for service at RSC they will clean them all off for you, and the watches will come back looking brand new

Awesome watch! Interesting info on the polishing options, I'd be scared of a dremel but good suggestion to practice on a fork or silverware.

Tell us about your ZR1! And you are in Indiana, any work done by Lingenfelter by chance?

My advice to you would be to wear it and not worry about it.

After reading and seeing all the nightmare stories of watches polished by owners and shoddy ADs I decided that I will let "character marks" accumulate and let the RSC address them during service. If I get a ding (none so far) that I can't stand to look at, I will send it in for repair.

I'm in Indianapolis, and yes, I have a ZR-1. It's not the new ZR1 set to come out in a month or so, it's an 'old' one. The Corvette that put it back into International Spotlight. The 4 Cam 32V motor co-designed by Lotus(GM owned them in the mid 80s) and GM Powertrain. This particular car was not modified by LPE, but I have done a few things to it. Best 1/4 mile it ever ran was 12.0@119mph on street tires.

I do have a Z06 however, that has been to LPE for modification. What's funny is, the new car is hands down better than the old ZR-1 in almost every facet. The one thing the Z06 lacks though, is a soul.. There is really something about that old LT5 that just grabs ahold of the little boy in you and refuses to let go. Every time I rev it up to 7400RPM, I fall in love all over again!
