Ok, I bit the bullet - CK2998 LE

The last few weeks I got really excited with the then upcoming release of the Speedy moonphase. The release of this CK2998 LE totally blindsided me.

I understand the purists were skeptical with this one, as it uses a big name in Omega history and is merely "inspired" by it, with a totally different color scheme, but when looked at individually, I quickly began to feel it was my favorite release this year - the size is amazing for me, at 39.7mm, the dial has a very vintage (Paul Newman, even, or is it just me?) vibe to it, while adding a modern touch with the navy blue color choice, and the navy blue ceramic insert with lume closes the deal (it doesn't hurt that I'm a sucker for blue, either).

Anyways, Omega's promo video did it for me. I had to have one.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9EufsnqmEYA

The only thing missing was a live picture, so I waited and kept an eye open for all sites covering Basel. Finally this came out:

And off to the boutique I went. Deposit paid, and the wait begins. Really looking forward to this one!

While there, I had the chance to take a look at many nice pieces, including this 50 something mm hunk of coolness. It is surprisingly wearable, btw.

Anyways, my speedy is due around September, I think. Can't wait.

I just called the boutique by me and they told me that they can not accept any deposits yet, the only thing I could do is get on a waiting list. I was first on there list.

Nice move, IMO the best watch of Basel from Omega. I'm holding back though however since the navy blue from them never grew on me. I do like the design though quite a bit as the throwback.

That's great, congrats on being top of the list. As the first, I'm sure you'll get yours. Here in Brazil the boutiques are taking 20% deposits to ensure you will get a piece, and that any future price increases do not affect you. Our price was fixed just shy of 6k usd, at the current exchange rates.

I like the looks and size.

Do you know what movement they are using?
Didn't see it in the site

Was privileged to have one on my wrist earlier in the week at the show.

The professional pictures faithfully reflect how marvellous the peice is.

I know some folks don't - but I really like the lollipop second hand and the fact that all the other hands match.

Very happy to have preordered as well.

Thanks a lot, everyone.

Landrover, I read somewhere that the msrp in the US is going to be $6500, but don't quote me on that. Down here it came out to a little less, due to currency fluctuations, I suppose.

My local boutiques asking me if I wanted to submit a profile for the watch both said $6500....so it's a safe bet. Supposed to be here July/August.
