SS Daytona

How is the market for the SS Daytona? It appears to be cooling or am I mistaken? The reason I ask is my AD told me he will probably have one shortly and he asked if I wanted it put aside. I will be honest, I would probably buy it to flip. But if the market is no longer viable, I think I may just pass. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think the resell market is where it was a year ago, but you could definitely turn a profit on it. If you don't want it I'd be happy to purchase it from you if it's a white face one.

The SS Daytona market has softened a bit due to the sticker shock of the last price increase and the rough US economy. There is still some profit potential, but the spread has thinned.

Isn't the white face SS Daytona a bit of a...fad? (A word I do not use sparingly.) It seems that every business owner, or anyone that wants to be perceived as successful, has a white face SS Daytona.

It seems to be the watch that 'everyone' is clamoring for, and I see its popularity fading when people come to realize this. JMO.

I was told a couple of days ago by the AD in London that the waiting list for an SS Daytona is 7 years!

...and one year for a Sub 16610

Maybe the demand in Europe is different than in the US.

i stopped looking for a white ss daytona when the priced raised from 7,900.00. they aren't worth more than that in my opinion. if i am paying 12,000.00 for a ss chrono it will be a vacheron contantin overseas. it is bigger,, has stunning good looks, has a date function and will be able to get it serviced when it is old.

the market is bad here in the us but who knows? elsewhere in the world they may be selling like hot cakes.

I don't know what the market is for the Daytona. I love mine and I guess that's what matters.

I've waited years for one and it was the generosity of a wonderful member (Carey), that I finally got mine for MSRP.

The 36mm DD beats a Daytona? You can't be serious. Now the DD-II, okay.

They're still hot and hard to get at MSRP from an AD but some are giving up and poopooing the SS Daytona. To those that really want one I say hang in there.

I think the market is still very strong and those of us who love the SS Daytona would by it at the drop of a hat at MSRP.

I think there are fewer of us willing to pay 11-12K for this watch at the present time which should give flippers caution.

The love of the watch is still there, but with gas at 4 dollars a gallon,
its hard to justify paying the surcharge.

From my observations of recent price I would say that you might be able to flip it for $1000 over retail but not much more. I see them offered for more but NOT selling.

where i live that would put it at what it would cost me to buy it from the ad. 9,700.00 plus 10% tax.

Daytona is hot in Asia.If you can get it at retail, you'd probably be able to flip it for at least a 2k profit.......easily....well at least in Asia at least.

Hi,
Well he is definately wrong about the sub...ADs have them on display around here.
Also he may think he has a 7 year waiting list but after most on the list refuse it (because there are so many in the grey dealers) I wonder how long his list is then ?

Regards Mike.

The supply for SS Daytona is still short but I think due to the slow economy, many buyer cut down their spending. That's why you see more in the market these days.

Wish I had an answer for this..

The world economy was heading in the same direction it is now and Rolex still raised the base price by more than a thousand bucks.... I cannot believe that they do not do in-depth market analysis and trending for both price increases and sales figures before they make a move..

There may be a hiccup in the system as buyers adjust to the new prices and re-evaluate their financial positions, but in the end..............most buyers of 10k dollar watches will still find a way to buy.
